Sophia Nomvete will play Princess Disa in Amazon Studios’ upcoming fantasy series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. The series is a prequel to the film trilogy The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, both based on the works of JRR Tolkien. The Rings of Power is a prequel to the film series that takes place a thousand years before the events of The Hobbit.
Disa is the princess of the dwarven city of Khazad-dum. While the character’s roots in Tolkien’s novels are uncertain, a Lord of the Rings fan website believes that Disa’s character, like Bronwyn Nazanin Boniadi, was invented for the express purpose of the series. On Thursday, September 1, 2022, at 6:00 PM PT/9:00 PM ET, the first two episodes of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will be released on Amazon Prime Video.

Who is Sophia Nomvete, also known as Disa in Rings of Power?
According to a press release from Amazon Studios, Nomvete is a UK-born theater actress of African and Iranian descent. Her RSC credits include Dexter in Vice Versa, Miss Littlewood and England People Very Nice (Royal National Theatre). Nomvete also portrayed Sofia in the European debut of The Color Purple (Menier Chocolate Factory), an adaptation of Alice Walker’s book of the same name. For this role, she was nominated for a WhatsOnStage Award for Best Supporting Actress, as well as Best Supporting Actress in a Musical from The Evening Standard and Broadway World.
Nomvete will play Princess Disa in the next series. Nomvete auditioned for the role eight days before giving birth to her daughter, Entertainment Weekly reports. During the same conversation she said:
Well, you don’t get more motherly than that, I thought.
Disa has facial hair, claims the actor. She is also the first female dwarf in any Tolkien film adaptation to date.

One of the most expensive television series ever made is The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. The action takes place during the second age of Middle Earth. The eight-episode series will begin on Thursday, September 1, 2022, and conclude on Friday, October 14, 2022, with the season finale. The events of the Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit cinematic trilogies are set a thousand years before the events of the series. Peter Jackson turned the Lord of the Rings novel series into a trilogy. The Return of the King, the third part of the trilogy, won 11 Oscars, including Best Picture in 2003.
Cynthia Addai-Robinson, Robert Aramayo, Owain Arthur, Maxim Baldry, Nazanin Boniadi, Morfydd Clark, Ismael Cruz Córdova and Charles Edwards will star in the next series. Trystan Gravelle, Sir Lenny Henry, Ema Horvath, Markella Kavenagh, Joseph Mawle, Tyroe Muhafidin, Lloyd Owen, Megan Richards, Dylan Smith, Charlie Vickers, Leon Wadham, Benjamin Walker, Daniel Weyman and Sara Zwangobani are among the other cast members.
