Sophie Turner Calls Aftermath of Joe Jonas Split the 'Worst Few Days of My Life': 'I'm Still in Shock'

Sophie Turner is shedding new light on the days after her split from ex-husband Joe Jonas.

As a part British Voguecover story for June 2024, Turner, 28, spoke about days after news broke of her divorce from the former Disney star, 34. The couple – who have daughters Willa, 3½, and Delphine, 22 months – married in 2019 and they broke up last year. Post-divorce headlines painted Turner as a party girl who neglected her parental duties.

“I mean, those were the worst days of my life,” he said Game of Thrones alum told the publication. “I remember I was on set, I was contracted to be on set for two more weeks, so I couldn’t leave. My children were in America and I couldn’t get to them because I had to finish Joan. And all these articles started coming out…”

Photos of the actress at a festive party for Joan in Birmingham, England, and rumors that she was a bad mother spread through gossip forums and tabloids. She had to remind herself that “none of this is true” and that she is a “good mom.”

“I mean, there’s an unfathomable amount of people that will just do s— and put it based on a picture,” Turner said. “A picture can say a thousand words, but that’s not my story. I felt like I was watching a movie of my life that I didn’t write, produce or star in. It was shocking. I’m still in shock.”

“There were a few days when I didn’t know if I would make it. I would call my lawyer and tell him, ‘I can’t do it. I just can’t,’” the Take revenge the actress recalled. “And then, finally, after two weeks of being stuck, she reminded me to fight for my children.”

Now Turner is in a much better place.

“There’s something about community and a support system that I never realized was so important until now,” she shared. “And I think the reason I took medication for so long is because I didn’t have those people around. Now that I’m back home, I’m actually the happiest I’ve been in a while. I’m starting over, rediscovering what I like to do, who I like to be with.”

On September 5, 2023, Jonas filed to dissolve his marriage to Turner in Miami, with documents obtained by PEOPLE stating that the “marriage between the parties is irretrievably dissolved.”

Later that month, Turner sued Jonas for “wrongful custody” of their children, according to court documents obtained by PEOPLE. The lawsuit against the singer called for the “immediate return of children wrongfully removed or wrongfully retained,” which her legal team claimed began on September 20, 2023.

“The father is in possession of the children’s passports. He refuses to return the passports to the mother and refuses to send the children home to England with the mother,” the lawsuit states.

On the same day, Jonas responded to the lawsuit, calling the claims “misleading.” A representative for the musician described the dispute as “an unfortunate legal dispute over a marriage that is sadly ending.”
