- Subin’s passion for cinema dates back to his childhood, when he had a strong desire to be a part of the film industry.
- Subin actively participated in sports, costume contests and performances during college. In an interview, he discussed his interests and mentioned that while he was committed to these extracurricular activities, he put his studies on the back burner; however, this approach did not harm his reputation as a student. Instead, his active participation in extracurricular activities earned him a positive image, and he was not considered a neglectful or inattentive student.

- In an interview, Subin shared his journey into the Malayalam film industry starting as an assistant director and aspired to be promoted to principal assistant director. Subin said of this in an interview,
I joined as an assistant director but was told never to think of it as a paid job. It’s always about learning the nuances. The hope at the time was to one day become a principal deputy superintendent. There is still much to learn. So the goal is not just to be a director, but to be an associate director. It was during this phase that I was offered roles in films like Annayum rasoolumm (2013). However, I had a feeling that I should direct movies. So I decided to quit acting for a while. I just go with the flow. “
- In February 2022, Subin took to Instagram to share a special moment from his early days as an assistant director. He fondly recalls his first bulkhead experience with esteemed Indian actor KPAC Lalitha, capturing her face on the bulkhead. Subin expressed his deep admiration for her incredible talent as an actor and considers himself lucky to have had the opportunity to star with her in a film called Djinn.
- In July 2022, Indian film producer Omar Lulu sparked a controversy when several defamatory posts against Soubin Shahir appeared on his Facebook profile. When a flood of such posts flooded his Facebook wall, the director quickly deleted them. After the incident, he publicly apologized to Subin Shahir and the public, claiming that he and his team knew nothing about the incident. Omar later claimed that his account had been hacked, which he believed may have been the source of the derogatory posts. Omar’s Facebook post read,
Dear friends. It has come to my attention that there are some screenshots circulating online in which I have been accused of defaming actor Soubin Shahir. I have contacted my Facebook page administrator and unfortunately they are unaware of the fake screenshot. I don’t know if my account was hacked or not and I sincerely apologize to actor Soubin Shahir and his loved ones for hurting their feelings. “
- In May 2023, Omar Lulu publicly criticized Subin, calling him uncooperative and undisciplined. According to Omar, during the production of the film Happy Wedding (2018), Subin allegedly ignored phone calls and did not show up for dubbing sessions. Omar spoke about this in an interview and said that the emerging generation of Malayalam actors is increasingly causing difficulties for directors and producers in the industry.
