The creator of Spanx is on a mission to reinvent women’s shoes — and she’s not giving up fashion for functionality.
Sara Blakely, who founded the revolutionary apparel design company in 2000, introduces Sneex, a sneaker/heel hybrid that “merges the style of a traditional high heel with the performance and comfort of a sneaker,” according to a press release.
Sneex attempts to address the three main pain points of typical high heel design — lack of support, uneven weight distribution, and toe pinching.
“Men invented high heels centuries ago, and their basic construction hasn’t changed,” says Blakely via press release. “There is a void in comfortable footwear, and women deserve a new option. I wanted to create a luxurious high heel that prioritizes how women feel, not just how we look.”
She continues: “We feed on the phrase that ‘beauty is pain’… but I don’t believe it has to be that way. As a consumer, I’ve wanted to solve this problem for years.”

The businesswoman also said that the Sneex was born out of her personal desire for a more elevated sneaker option that didn’t exist before.

“Consumers are dressing much more casually now,” she says. “Even though sneakers are accepted as an option, a lot of times I wear clothes and still want the height and look of a heel with a sneaker vibe. There was an opportunity.”
The patented design, available in three styles and ten colors at Sneex.com, features fine nappa leather and suede from Italy and Spain. The Sneex is handcrafted in Spain with prices ranging from $395 (for styles like The Icon) to $595 (The Tepper) in full sizes 5-11.

Like the ethos behind Spanx, Blakely has put comfort at the forefront of Sneex in a way that challenges long-held ideals in the fashion industry.
“You have to try them to feel the magic hidden in them,” she says. “Women either cry, dance or run away. I can’t believe it’s a 3 inch heel!”
