Charles Macaskie and his wife Dorothy established Spielplatz Village in 1929. They bought some virgin forest close to Bricket Wood and set up camp there after relocating from London.
The Green Monastery and a Play Place was the name of their utopian camp (Spielplatz). On weekends, more couples and people joined them. Ross Nichols, the creator of the Order of Bards, Ovates, and Druids, was one of their guests up until 1947.
Gerald Gardner, who later founded his first coven at Bricket Wood in his establishment of Wicca as a modern religion, as well as other Druids were drawn to him as a result.

Investigative reporter Dan Farson visited the Spielplatz Naturist Club in Bricket Wood in 1957 for the documentary series Out of Step on ITV and spoke with Charles Macaskie, Mrs. Macaskie, and their daughter Iseult.
