Despite winning the competition and surviving the first season, Ki-hoon’s career is not over. Instead of boarding a plane to reunite with his daughter, Ki-hoon turns away, intent on winning the competition and Front Man (Lee Byung-hun), Squid Games Season 2 finds Ki-hoon seeking revenge against those who have wronged him and countless others.
As part of Geeked Week, Netflix has now released a new trailer for Season 2, which shows Ki-hoon waking up to find the hero standing at the door. Watch the trailer below:
Later, Ki-hoon wakes up in the game, wearing the green and white player uniform, once again identifying him as player number 456. The trailer also shows the coach running the game again, this time without the involvement of the game’s creator Oh Il-nam (Oh Young-soo), while the guards set up a series of seemingly childish yet deadly matches.
What the trailer means for Squidward Floyd season 2
Gives a sense of intentional surrealism
The trailer has a dreamlike feel, which is further enhanced by Ki-hoon waking up at the beginning and end of the video. It is unclear if the main character is actually at Ki-hoon’s door, if Ki-hoon has actually returned to the game as Player 456, or if these are just dreams he is having after the trauma he suffered in Season 1. Simply restarting the game may not be an effective way to get revenge, as in this position he is relatively powerless and at the mercy of the main character and his guards.
Ki-hoon may need to find another way to sabotage Front Man, perhaps by posing as one of the guards. If that’s the case, Ki-hoon could be one of the masked guards seen in the trailer, using that position to destabilize the game from the inside. Aside from the mystery of what exactly happened to Ki-hoon, the trailer also hints at new competitions players will face this time around, one of which will involve a pair of circular rainbows, whose bright colors once again provide an unsettling contrast to the bloodshed taking place.

The trailer does a great job recreating Squid Games The first season finale features a showdown between Ki-hoon and Front Man without revealing any significant details about what’s to come. It’s an effective teaser, hinting at the insurmountable odds and overwhelming forces Ki-hoon faces while emphasizing that the game is still being played with precision and ruthlessness. Squid Games The first season was a huge success around the world, and the second season should be able to continue this performance and further increase its popularity.
Squid Games Season 2 will premiere on Netflix on December 26.
