after a few days of chatting on the red carpet Interstellar Travel: Picard The world premiere of Season 3, rant screen Ashlei Sharpe Chestnut is happy to interview Ashlei Sharpe Chestnut about her portrayal of Sidney La Forge), her real-life connection to the LeVar Burton family reflects her personality, and Ashlei brings us in behind the scenes to share her experiences on set. Interstellar Travel: Picard Season 3.
Ashlei Sharpe Chestnut as Sidney La Forge in Star Trek: Picard Season 3
Screen Rant: There have been two episodes Picard So far, I think it’s safe to say that Sidney will be a fan favorite as season three progresses. We’ve only seen a few scenes of Sidney so far, so can you tell us a little bit about ol’ Crash La Forge?
Ashley Sharp Chestnut: My God! [laughs] The history Frakes is talking about is…she basically sank these ships.but I think [in] In the beginning, the way you’re introduced to Sidney, she’s kind of an innocent, studious, and business-oriented character.
I think as the season goes on you’ll really see her stand on her own. In the first scene, you see her talking to Riker and Picard, and she says, “Hi, you don’t remember me, but hi, I’m Sidney!” And she’s the Energy type, I’m really happy for the fans to see her progress along the way.
your previous career Picard Very good. we were in Gotham, Homeland, Brutal Summer, NCIS. How does it feel to have been cast not only for Star Trek but also for the next generation of La Forge?
Ashlei Sharpe Chestnut: Oh my god. When I initially auditioned, they didn’t tell me what it was for. So it’s funny, my mom was a huge fan of Star Trek and she was the reader I auditioned for. I did some things during the audition that freaked me out. My mom said, “It’s really like Star Trek. I don’t think the characters panic that way. In other words.”
In short, I did differently. And then I booked a part, but I didn’t know it was Jody’s daughter until I actually got an official call from an agent. They were like, “Ah, yes, by the way, you put the Star Trek book. Not only did you book the Star Trek book, but you also played Jody La Forge’s daughter, Sidney La Forge.” Funny enough, my mom was in the room again when I got the call. We were all out of our minds. I am, it’s a character icon It’s crazy to be this character’s daughter.
We want to thank your mother right now. marvelous. I love you and my sister Mica Burton as Alandra both respect Jody’s role in Enterprise. Because it’s easy to forget that Jody was the one directing in season one TNG Before he became chief engineer.
Ashlei Sharpe Chestnut: We discussed this briefly. Leval told me [how] You will see the difference in our family dynamics. Sydney is at the helm of the ship—the woman—but that’s how Jody started in the first place. And then you see they have their moment. We discussed this.
You, Mika and LeVall all told me during the premiere that the Burton family adopted you in real life and named you Honor Burton. Leval told me that you are his child now.
Ashley Sharp Chestnut: Yes! [laughs] I love it. I love it.
Ever wanted to have three people wearing only visors in a scene? Like the VISOR is a household item, like wearing the right pajamas for Christmas?
Ashley Sharp Chestnuts: [laughs] I have not experienced it at all. But I’m totally willing to do it.
If you get a chance to reprise that character and the three of you are together, it really should.
Ashlei Sharpe Chestnut: Yes, we will wear visors.
One of the coolest little subplots Picard The second episode sees Sidney befriending the Seven of Nine. Please tell me a little bit about the amazing relationship and scene with Jeri Ryan.
Ashlei Sharpe Chestnut: First of all, Jeri is amazing, I mean outside of Star Trek [too]. But jump in and find that relationship because the Seven of Nine knows, or Commander Seven as Sidney calls her, knows the history of who Sidney and her father are and how she’s trying to make a name for herself. Well, she protected her under her own protection, and it helped Sidney realize that she could come out of her father’s shadow, if that makes sense, you know?
It’s a really exciting dynamic. It’s a bit of a surprise, but it’s great to have this successor [be Sidney’s] tutor. You are brand new, but also a traditional character. That’s pretty cool. Of course, in the second episode, we finally see Captain Vadic on screen. I’m curious if you see her in your footage. What was everyone’s reaction during filming?
Ashlei Sharpe Chestnut: Those are the lines in the green screen. We are taking action. (laughs) I really don’t see that… no, I don’t think… well, that’s not true, I think at one point, Amanda actually went to the set just to give her lines. That is, for example, point of view. But in most cases, it’s just a blue screen.
OH. But even so, it’s very convincing. She is a great villain.
Ashley Sharp Chestnut: I know. I can’t wait to see more of her.
And this incredible scene, revealed at the end of episode two when Beverly Crasher appears on the bridge. She and Picard meet for the first time. Now he knew who Jack was. Correct. How did you feel being a part of that scene? Just in that vibe?
Ashlei Sharpe Chestnut: As Ashlei, I was like, “Oh!” Because this is like history! You’ll see people back to the bridge and all that. But I mean, knowing that Picard is Jack’s father, I mean, you know, that’s pretty cool. So I think it’s like looking at it from the side. And get a little side eye. Like, “What happened?”, you know what?
Lots of fun moments on the bridge with Patrick Stewart, Jonathan Frakes, Jerry Ryan and Todd Stashwick. But it’s fun to watch you in your scenes. Since you’re at the helm, you’re practically turning your back on them most of the time. You should install a small rearview mirror so you can see them.
Ashlei Sharpe Chestnut: I should, shouldn’t I? Because you see my eyes, my eyes are like doing a little thing [of this]. But I can’t just slowly go back to see what’s going on, you know?
Do you have any special memories at work? Interstellar Travel: Picard And those actors? Do they give you any advice? Did they take you under their wing? How does it feel to be with them? Because the cast is legendary. And they are also very naughty.
Ashley Sharp Chestnut: Oh ho! Jonathan Frakes certainly did. The moment I remember most deeply is the first time I stepped on the bridge. It’s amazing. I think it was meeting people for the first time, meeting LeVal for the first time. I don’t know if I’ve told you the story yet, but I saw him get out of the trailer and I yelled at the venue, “Hi! I’m Ashley! I’ll be playing your daughter, ” and then Run to him and hug him. Then at the end of the season you also get some action. I mean, this is my first time doing stunt training, so I’m really excited about it.
Did you have any kind of driver training? Is there such a thing in Star Trek? How to press a button or how to control the rudder?
Ashlei Sharpe Chestnut: Not necessarily, I don’t know. I won’t remember if they actually zoomed in on my panel [on] Like reality. But there are a few buttons in there that say “take off” or something, this sort of thing would be helpful. Otherwise I’m alone. I’m looking to fit in and do things differently on my own. And, [there’s] Let’s study history and see how the forefathers did it.
Sidney is the newest female train driver on Star Trek. And Melissa Navia new world with emily cout Detect. In fact, Sidney is part of a different legacy, as Jacqueline King plays the daughter of Sulu, the driver of the Enterprise B. You should all form a drivers club and start racing. Who is win?
Ashlei Sharpe Chestnut: Uh, me. Sidney La Forge. Are you kidding me?
I think you will too. You also have the coolest, newest spaceship. But it’s not just boats. This is also a pilot, right?
Ashley Sharp Chestnut: Exactly.
Think of Sidney as an incredible character. As we just said, she epitomizes many legacies. TNG. Jody’s daughter. Star Trek driving. You know Sidney and Star Trek will be part of the rest of your career. What does that look like? You will go to prison and watch people play Sidney.
Ashlei Sharpe Chestnut: I knew that when I went to prison and saw… especially little girls dressed like Sidney, I would cry. I knew I was going to cry. But I’m really happy to meet the fans. They have been very friendly and welcoming so far. As you said, I know I will be a part of it, and I will always be a part of it. I’m really glad. I really appreciate being a part of this universe.
Let’s talk about what’s coming Interstellar Travel: Picard. Can you give us an advice on what’s coming? What is Sidney doing…
Ashlei Sharpe Chestnut: I’d say you’ll see some family dynamics. You see, Alandra and Sidney are sisterly but also a little naughty. You see several action sequences. Outside of Sydney, I think you’ll see every character… I would say, you’ll find every character has a nice arc.
One last question: you are the driver. You have an admiral, you have your captain, and then you have another captain. All three ordered at the same time. The three commands contradict each other. who do you follow?
Ashlei Sharpe Chestnut: That’s a really good question. Well, that will really come at the end of the season. So I guess you’ll have to wait to see her answer.
