A Missouri jury found Stephan Cannon guilty on Wednesday, July 20, 2022, of the fatal shooting of retired St. Louis Police Capt. Louis David Dorn during a robbery and disorderly conduct case in June 2020. Cannon was found guilty of three counts of armed criminal action, first-degree murder, first-degree robbery, and first-degree burglary of $750 or more according to a jury. Marvin Teer Jr., the lead prosecutor, said,
“A nice guy was killed, and the other guy will probably spend many years in prison because of it.”
Teer, on the other hand, was relieved that David Dorn’s family could finally find an end to their lives. Ann Dorn, the widow of retired police Capt. David Dorn, said she spent nearly three days in court trying to make sure justice was served for her late husband. She said Teer did an excellent job and the family could not have chosen a better prosecutor for the case.

David Dorn was killed after responding to a burglar alarm.
David was killed on June 2, 2020, while responding to a burglar alarm at a friend’s store, Lee’s Pawn and Jewelry. The robbers broke into the store at 2 am, and David Dorn (77) resisted them, but he was fatally wounded. Furthermore, the prosecutor’s office charged six people in connection with the incident, including Cannon, who is suspected of Dorn’s murder.
Lawyers reportedly live-streamed Facebook footage of the aftermath of the incident before it was removed from the network. Cannon’s public defender, Brian Horneyer, argued in his opening statement that there is no physical evidence linking his client to Dorn’s death. He also claimed that the state’s main witness, who is facing multiple charges, told police he would tell “anything” to get a plea deal and avoid being convicted of murder.
However, the prosecution claims Cannon was the only person there when the shots were fired in the area. Investigators reportedly discovered a gun, televisions and pieces of dreadlocks in Cannon’s apartment after the crime. However, they were unable to locate the weapon used to attack Cannon.
Cannon, a resident of Glasgow Village, was arrested and charged with Dorn’s murder days later. Another man, Mark Jackson, was charged with three counts of armed criminal action, including second-degree murder, first-degree robbery and first-degree burglary. Defense attorney Brian Horneyer said he will appeal on behalf of his client Stephan Cannon. If his request for a new trial is denied at sentencing, he plans to appeal. The sentencing in that case is scheduled for September 13.
