He was later promoted to the Tennessee Smokies minor league baseball club and played in the Class AA Southern League. Major League Baseball selected him to participate in the All-Star Futures Game that same year.
On July 15, 2006, he made his big league debut against the Milwaukee Brewers baseball club. He batted .316 with 5 home runs and 23 RBI this season. In 2007, he had his worst season of his career, hitting .238 with 12 home runs. – He returned in 2008, scoring for the cycle against St. Louis Cardinals. He finished the season batting .291 with 21 home runs. In 2010, he became the sixth Diamondback to hit an inside-the-park home run.
