Before this streak started in August, you appeared to sing “Until I Found You” with Lana Del Rey at her sold-out show at Fenway Park in June. How did it come together?

It’s so wild. We played a festival in May last year and she followed me on Instagram and the boys and I went right crazy. I sent her a DM and then seven months went by, no response. It wasn’t until I lived in Australia for a while that she finally responded to my DMs. I said, “Oh my God, I have to pay her back.” I sent my number and she said, “I’ll get back to you.” I said, “Oh my God, she’s going to text me.” She finally texted me in March and said, “Yo, I’m playing at Hangout Fest. Do you want to come and sing on stage and chill and ride an ATV?” I said, “I can’t. I’m in Australia, but next time we’ll have to do something.” She says, “Ah, too bad.” The opportunity was missed. I said, “Shoot. I’m sure we’ll break up at some point. I have her number now. This is great.” When I finally got home, she texted me again like, “We need to hang out. Do you want to come to Fenway Park in Boston?” We kicked, and it was great. Played in front of 40,000 people. It was a beautiful time.

Did you learn anything from singing with Lana?

She is just very sweet. She is a woman with a kind heart, so passionate about her craft, and is just a lovely, lovely person. I’m grateful that we connected and hung out, and I’m sure we’ll share more friendships as the years go by.

How is your current tour different from the previous one? An angel’s face shows? You always have a big concept – what is The Connie Co Show?

When we were on the last Angel Face tour, we played the record from cover to cover, and I was always talking about the love story between Evangeline and the Troubadour, about Hunter killing me and everything. But we never went back in time and talked about it The Connie Co Showwhere Stephen Sanchez and The Moon Crests made their music television debut. It’s mentioned in the story that’s written on the back of the record, all the songs we’ve played over the years at that show and how that turned into us having a residency at the Angel Club. I really wanted to go back in time and tell the first part of the story for the last tour we worked for [this album]. So we’re the musical guests on this fictional television show, with this host literally running us. He has topics to talk about, we do an interview and everything, and it’s cool. It’s like watching an old TV show from the 50s, if you were there back in the day.

Of An angel’s face came out, your shows got much bigger, “Until I Found You” went quadruple platinum, and the album went gold. How does it feel to have those turning points and growth on your first album?

That’s really cool An angel’s face it became golden. I love this record so much. I put so much time and effort into it, and it seemed really easy when we did it. There were songs that took a while to get through, but it never felt like an effort. Every song was inspiring and just opened us up, every time we finished a song, to something new. I just loved the progression of it all. I loved the people I worked with on it. Having these milestones just feels like, “Oh, man, we did something really great, and there’s a little more proof of that—and a sense of relief. But I still haven’t gotten my gold record. I need that record.”

Have you started working on what’s next?

It’s coming, for sure. It’s hard for me to write on tour, but I think when the tour is over, I’ll be in a better and clearer space. Even when we started working further An angel’s faceit was something we jumped into, and “Be More” was the first song that came out of it. So, I have a feeling that when I get back into that space, the music is going to come and it’s going to be great. It will be a lot different, for sure. What’s the point of doing the same thing twice?

An angel’s face apparently it has so many love songs on it. Did you have a date on the road that could be an inspiration for new music?

God, I’m just chilling. I decided it was smartest to act like I was a celibate monk. I feel like it’s the only thing that’s mine. Right now I’m just making music and touring. If love comes, great, but I’m in a great place and I’m happy.

How do you approach performing differently at this point, now that the shows have grown so much, than before An angel’s face first out?

There was a lot of pressure to do well and social media is such a difficult thing because nowadays it’s an indicator of your success. I think I put too much stress on it and put a lot of pressure on myself. But what was exciting was a lot of what the boys and I would call “iconic” moves and moments from our show. There’s a raised leg during “I Need You Most of All” and a slide during “Shake”. I went into this tour with the same mentality and less pressure. I’m just having a lot more fun this time.
