Stormzy Wiki:- Born on July 26, 1993, Michael Ebenezer Kwadjo Omari Owuo Jr., better known as Stormzy, is a British rapper, singer, and songwriter. He rose to fame in the UK underground music industry in 2014 as a result of his Wicked Skengman freestyle series recorded alongside classic grime sounds.

After Stormzy launched a campaign for the Christmas number one spot, his single “Shut Up”, which was first made available as a freestyle on YouTube, gained popularity and peaked at number eight on the UK Singles Chart.

Stormzy won Best Grime Talent at the 2014 and 2015 MOBO Awards and was listed as an Artist to Watch in BBC’s Sound of 2015. Their 2017 self-titled debut album, Gang Signs & Prayer, which in 2018 won the Brit Awards for British Album of the Year, made history as the first grime album to reach the top of the UK Albums Chart.

With “Vossi Bop”, Stormzy scored her first UK number-one single in 2019. Her headlining performance at Glastonbury 2019 won acclaim, and in response to the rise in knife crime in London, she wore a Union Jack stab vest created by Banksy.

Michael Ebenezer Kwadjo Omari Owuo Sr. was born in Croydon, London on July 26, 1993. His mother is from Ghana and his father was a taxi driver. He grew up in South Norwood London with his mother, his brother and two sisters.

Stormzy was a fan of music, although his family was not particularly musical. He attended South Norwood Tech. He started rapping at the age of 11 and at the local Youth Center he feuded with more experienced rappers.

“I was a very naughty young man, on the verge of expulsion, but I was not a bad boy; everything I did was for my own enjoyment,” Stormzy commented on his time at the school.

Career

Stormzy self-released his debut EP Dreamers Disease in July 2014 after gaining recognition in the UK underground music scene with his Wicked Skengman series of freestyles on traditional grime sounds.

Stormzy won Best Grime Artist at the MOBO Awards on October 22, 2014. He performed Dreamers Disease’s “Not That Deep” on Later with Jools Holland that same month, becoming the first non-established rapper to do so.

Rapper Stormzy and rapper Chip and Shalo worked together on the song “I’m Fine” in November 2014. Stormzy was also in the video.

Stormzy’s 2011 series of homophobic comments were revealed to have been posted on Twitter in November 2017. In one of his tweets, he called a gay character in EastEnders a “fucking fagot”, among other offensive comments.

From 2015 to 2019, British television presenter and actress Maya Jama and English rapper Stormzy Back were in a romantic relationship. The couple, who were well known in the UK, decided to split in 2019 and Maya Jama was rumored to be dating NBA superstar Ben Simmons. At the end of 2021, the NBA player and Maya Jama got married, but they ended the marriage in August 2022.
