Dick Cavett was born in Gibbon, Nebraska. Both his father Alva B Cavett and mother Erabel “Era” (née Richards) were educators in Comstock, Gibbon and Grand Island. His maternal grandparents are Rev. RR and Etta Mae Richards, while his paternal grandparents were Alva A Cavett and Gertrude Pinsch.
