However, he later decided to quit the job and prepare for the civil service examination. While preparing for the civil service, he worked as a teacher in a school in Nainital. When he attempted the UPSC exam for the first time, he was selected for revenue service. But in the second attempt, he performed better and secured 45th rank and was assigned to the Rajasthan cadre.

He subsequently served as revenue collector and district judge in various districts including Jaisalmer, Junjunu, Bhilwara and Jaipur. During this period, he held important positions such as chairman and general manager of the National Power Transmission and Transformation Company, the National Power Distribution Company, and the National Renewable Energy Company. In January 2018, Sudhansh Pant took charge as Joint Secretary, Drugs Department. In this role, he handles different areas related to pharmaceuticals such as pharmaceutical policy, planning, pharmaceutical industry development, pharmaceutical industry R&D, pricing and international collaboration matters. While working in the pharmaceutical ministry, Pant was recognized for drafting several important bills that brought down the prices of drugs and medical devices in India. Sudhansh Pant worked at the center from September 2014 to December 2019. While serving as Joint Secretary in the Union Health Ministry, he played a key role in formulating the National Medical Council Bill that replaced the Medical Council of India. The bill was later approved by the Federal Council. He was also responsible for planning the opening of 75 medical schools across the country. Out of these, 15 medical colleges are established in Rajasthan. Additionally, Sudhansh Pant was involved in drafting the National Commission Bill and the Allied Medical Professionals Bill during this period.
In December 2019, Sudhansh Pant was appointed as the principal secretary of the Rajasthan Forest and Environment Department by the Gehlot government. Subsequently, in June 2023, the central government conducted an organizational adjustment. Sudhansh Pant has been appointed as Officer on Special Duty (OSD), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. He was also elected as the new federal health minister. An order issued by the Personnel Ministry explained that once Health Minister Rajesh Bhushan retires on July 31, 2023, he will take over as secretary of the department.
