Sudhir Sangwan is an Indian lawyer and contractor best known for serving as the personal secretary to Tiktok star and Bharatiya Janata Party leader Sonali Phogat. In August 2022, he came to the attention of the Goa police for his alleged involvement in the Sonali Phogat murder case.

Allegedly related to Sonali Phogat
Sudhir Sangwan met Sonali Phogat for the first time during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. The meeting was apparently arranged by a man from Jagdewas village in Bhiwani district, who has connections with many film actors. He worked behind the scenes for about five months and came out publicly during the 2019 Legislative Council elections; Sonali contested the elections from the Adampur assembly seat on the ticket of the BJP. Sudhir helped her during the campaign. He first visited Sonali’s home as a guest and slowly turned her home into his permanent home. Speaking to the media about the same, a relative of Sonali said:
One day I got a call from Sonali. She said she had a visitor from Australia. He is a lawyer and I should go see him. When I reached Sonali’s house, Sudhir was walking in Capri. A day later, he left. A week later, Sudhir came again and stayed at Sonali’s house for seven days. Gradually, he made Sonali’s house his permanent home. Within a month, Sudhir found out who in the family was close to Sonali. “
Gradually, he got hold of everything, from the keys to Sonali’s farmhouse to her ATM cards, financial assets and even her mobile phone. He used to decide who Sonali would meet and who could enter Sonali’s home. Apparently, he rented a house in Gurgaon Green Society, Sector 102, Gurgaon and he mentioned Sonali Phogat as his wife in the documents.

After completing his LLB, Sudhir started practicing as a lawyer in Gohana. After a while, he opened a chicken farm, which did not do well. He even started working as a middleman to provide subsidies to farmers in Poly House. He also worked briefly as a contractor and in 2019 started working as the personal secretary of Tiktok star and Bharatiya Janata Party leader Sonali Phogat.

From 2015 to 2016, Sudhir lived with his parents, wife and children in a rented house in Rohtak Sector 2, Haryana. His landlord had accused him of abusing him (the landlord) and occupying his (the landlord) house. Following the release, he asked Sudhir’s family to vacate his house within seven months.

Rape allegation
After Sonali Phogat’s death, her brother Rinku Dhaka lodged a police complaint alleging that Sangwan had mixed something nasty into his sister Sonali’s food three years ago After taking the substance, he raped her. He recorded the incident on his mobile phone and repeatedly forced Sonali to have physical relations with him. He even blackmailed her into ending her political and film careers if she disagreed with his views.

Sonali Phogat died under mysterious circumstances on August 22, 2022, in Goa. Initially, it was thought she died of a heart attack. However, her autopsy report revealed she had multiple injuries and her family later claimed she was raped by two men. Shortly after police began investigating the case, they discovered three CCTV footages.
First CCTV footage: The first video is from Curlies restaurant in Goa, where Sudhir can be seen handling Sonali who is unable to walk properly. In the same video, Sudhir and his colleague Sukhwinder Singh took Sonali to the washroom, where they stayed for about two hours.

Second CCTV footage: This 36-second video is from a disco. In the video, Sonali can be seen dancing with two men, Sudhir and Sukhwinder. However, she seemed reluctant to dance with Sukhwinder and tried to get away from him multiple times. Sudhir also danced beside them.

According to Goa police officials, during police interrogation, Sudhir and Sukhvinder admitted that they forcibly handed over the methamphetamine chemical to Sonali Phogat by mixing it with water. When Sonali’s health deteriorated due to a drug overdose, they took her to the bathroom. Addressing a press conference, Superintendent of Police Omvir Singh Bishnoi, while detailing the incident, said,
After arriving in Goa, Sudhir and Sukhwind took Sonali Phogat to Koli’s restaurant in northern Goa on the pretext of a party, where he (Sangwan) mixed some disturbing water in the drinking water. A nasty substance that Sonali was forced to drink. After drinking the water, she felt uneasy and sick in the restaurant. She was later taken to their hotel by Sangwan and Sukhwinder and then rushed to St. Anthony’s Hospital in Anjuna, where she was declared brought dead. “

- According to some sources, Sudhir liked to maintain close relations with politicians.
- Apparently, it was Sudhir who introduced Sukhwinder Singh to Sonali Phogat and said that Singh would help Sonali get a job in Goa.
- Sudhir had arranged various luxury rides for Sonali during the elections. The vehicles he arranged for Sonali Phogat include Mercedes, Ford Endeavor and Skoda cars.
