Profession
Sudipti Hajela started riding horses when she was six years old. She was initially trained at a training center in Delhi and later trained internationally. In 2018, she won the U21 championship at the AEF (Asian Equestrian Federation) Dressage Qualifying Championships in Jaipur, India.
On November 4, 2018, she participated in the 2018 FEI World Dressage Challenge held in New Delhi, India. In December 2018, she participated in the National Youth Equestrian Championships in Kolkata and won a gold medal in the team event and a bronze medal in the individual event.
In April 2019, she won the Asian Equestrian Federation (AEF) U-21 Dressage Championship held in Doha, Qatar, and was ranked 5th in the Asian continent.
In January 2021, she participated in the 2020-2021 National Equestrian Championships Dressage competition held at Army Polo and Equestrian Club, Brar Square, New Delhi and won 2 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze medals in different events.
In December 2021, she competed in the PSG (Grand Prix St. George), the highest level in dressage, in Delhi and took first place, as well as second place in the Intermediate 1 competition. In 2023, she participated in the 2022 Asian Games as a member of the Team (Quartet) representing India; Divyakriti Singh, Hriday Chheda and Anush Agarwalla were the other members of the Team (Quartet). India won the gold medal for the first time in the equestrian dressage team event. This was also India’s first gold medal in the equestrian event after 41 years. However, Hajira’s result was the lowest among the four Indian riders, with only the top three results taken into account. In an interview, when talking about her experience participating in the Asian Games, she said:
I think it was an absolutely amazing moment for the four of us. It’s great to make history. Before going into the race we were sure that if we gave our best we would be on the podium. We had no idea it was going to be gold. It’s hard to express how I feel. It is every athlete’s dream to see the tricolor hoisted and their national anthem played. “
Awards and Honors
- On November 7, 2017, she was awarded the Ekalavya Award by the Government of Madhya Pradesh for her excellence in equestrian dressage.
- In 2020, she received the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar Award in the sports category at Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi.
