Men’s Para Badminton
In 2016, Suhas Lalinakere Yathiraj became the first IAS official to represent India in the Para Badminton Championships. Suhas Larinakur became the first Para Badminton player from India to win the Asian Para Badminton Championships series in Beijing, China in 2016. Indonesia’s Hari Susanto was defeated by him in the final and won the gold medal. At that time, he was also serving as District Magistrate of Azamgarh.
On World Persons with Disabilities Day, December 3, 2016, Suhas Lalinakere was honored by the Uttar Pradesh state government for his outstanding performance in the disability movement during his tenure as a government official. In March 2018, Suhas Larinaker won the gold medal in the men’s singles competition of the 2nd National Para Badminton Championships in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, becoming the national champion.

I love my job, so I don’t feel tired when working or practicing badminton. Badminton is a mental exercise for me. To me, it’s like meditation. Everyone has 24 hours in a day, some people do it, some people make excuses for it. “
- On December 1, 2016, Suhas Lalinakere was awarded the Yash Bharti Award, considered the highest civilian honor in Uttar Pradesh. The award was presented to him by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
