Summer House’s Lindsay Hubbard and Carl Radke Officially Cancel Wedding After Calling Off Engagement (Exclusive)

Lindsay Hubbard and Carl Radke have officially called it quits.

After getting engaged in August 2022 and planning to tie the knot this fall in Mexico, PEOPLE can confirm Summer house the stars broke off their engagements and canceled their weddings.

In a letter to family and friends obtained by PEOPLE, Radke, 38, announced the news and apologized for any confusion or inconvenience it may cause.

“Words cannot describe how difficult the last two weeks have been for Lindsay and I,” he wrote. “We are incredibly sorry to all of our guests for the confusion and lack of communication. We are left trying to figure out exactly how this all happened before we could even have a chance to determine a way forward between us.”

“There were many false stories and misunderstandings that made this even more painful, but unfortunately at this moment we are not going ahead with the wedding,” continued Radke. “The fact of the matter is that Lindsay is devastated and I am devastated that this has all happened. I am kindly asking for some patience and grace as we heal and recover as we go through this extremely difficult time.”

Admitting that their guests’ “commitments of money and time were already big,” Radke noted, “I don’t take [this] leisurely. We are extremely grateful for the love and support you have shown us and I will do everything I can to help with any costs associated with the change of plans.”

Radke then discussed alternative plans their loved ones could pursue, including still going to Mexico on vacation or canceling their reservations altogether, before ending his note.

“Again, I’m sorry this has become such a mess,” he wrote. “Thank you for your unconditional love and support during this difficult time. I will be in touch with you for further updates. Love, Carl”

Representatives for Radke and Hubbard did not respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

In mid-August, Hubbard celebrated her nuptials at the Cathédrale restaurant in New York with her co-stars Amanda Batula, Danielle Olivera, Ciara Miller, Gabby Prescod and Sam Feher in attendance.

“I have such an amazing group of girlfriends who wouldn’t let me run away without getting married,” Hubbard told PEOPLE. “They have been in my life for so long and have been on this crazy journey to find love by my side through every relationship. I feel so lucky and blessed to have the girls I have and to celebrate the biggest moment of my life with them before that next chapter. It’s such a special treat to be able to do that.”

Radke surprised Hubbard, 37, at the end of the shower, and later posted on Instagram: “You’re going to be such a beautiful bride.”

Hubbard told PEOPLE at the time she and Radke were finalizing the wedding details. “It’s so nice to see Carl as we keep checking the to-dos off our list and he’s getting closer,” she said. “We’re literally three months away at this point, and it goes by so fast. And then the next thing you know, I’ll be walking down the aisle.”

In July, PEOPLE went wedding dress shopping with Hubbard at Kleinfeld Bridal in New York.

“Really, all I want is for Carl to cry as I walk down the aisle and give him goosebumps when he sees me at the reception because isn’t that what we always want as brides; cry, and then get a bone, and we’re good?” she joked.

“I’m really happy with how it turned out,” Radke told PEOPLE at the time. “She means everything to me and I wanted it to be something that reflected my love for her and how excited I am to take the next step.”

Radka he asked the question with Nicole Rose 3.5 carat square cushion brilliant cut ring with two crescent diamonds on the side (making the ring 4.02 carats total).

“It’s a lot of love,” Hubbard said. “It is very clear, if you look at this finger, that this man loves me so much.”

Some of the couple’s cast members thought they were Hubbard and Radke, who met in 2016 in the first season Summer househe got engaged too soon.

“There are no rules,” he said in a confessional interview during Season 7. “There are no rules about when you should get engaged. I just follow what’s in my heart. This is the biggest decision I’ll ever make in my life.” I just know that I’m happy. I’m in love. I want to take the next step with my best friend. Is it fast? Maybe, but I see a future here and I want it to be more official.”

In May 2022, Hubbard shared with fans on Instagram that she had begun the process of freezing her eggs starting with hormone injections.

“Finally found a few weeks/time to sit still enough in NYC to continue the egg freezing process! 🙌🏼,” Hubbard said. “I’m currently on my 3rd day of hormone shots (started on Friday) and it’s really not too bad… but I’ve got about a week left so we’ll see lol!”

During the sixth season Summer houseHubbard talked about exploring that option.

“I’ve been thinking and talking about egg freezing for a while now,” she said. “I’ve settled in the past and forced something because I was up against my own timeline. If I could just stop my biological clock and eliminate that as part of my mate selection process, then maybe I could find someone who was actually meant for me.”

Hubbard has since praised Radke for being “rocky” during the egg freezing, as well as when she told him she had a miscarriage with her ex Winter house actor Jason Cameron.

“He was amazing and so, so sweet. He took me for acupuncture to relieve stress and tension … and took me to my real procedure, brought me home,” she recalled to PEOPLE. “He also booked us a night at the spa after mine [egg] return, where he gave us massages. He gave me great, great support.”
