Sunil said his love for water and water sports came from growing up near Loktak Lake, the largest freshwater lake in northeast India. His journey into water sports started when he took his first kayaking lesson at a training center called Takmu Water Sports Complex on the banks of Loktak Lake. In 2013, on the advice of his aunt, a canoe instructor, he moved to Hyderabad. In 2015, he was selected to participate in the national training camp and in 2016, he became the national champion. After training at the Army Center in Roorkee, Sunil further honed his skills at the SAI (Sports Authority of India) center in Bhopal under the guidance of men’s team captain Pijush Baroi. coach.
