Susan Feniger News
Chef Susan Feniger, a leading restaurateur in the Los Angeles area for more than 35 years, assumed she had experienced everything, including earthquakes, civil unrest and recessions, until the spring of 2020, when the pandemic reared its ugly head.
To save the restaurants, chef Susan Feniger puts herself in danger.
Feniger describes the impact of the crisis on the restaurant and hospitality industry as “much, much more intense”. “I mean, it’s one thing when you’re locked up for four or five days because of a riot and a curfew, but I think it’s hard for everyone to accept. It really puts the company at risk in a way that nothing else has.
For that reason, according to Feniger, it’s critical that people know about and support legislation that could help the struggling industry, where more than 6 million people have lost their jobs.
He states that the Catering Law is one of the things that everyone is trying to promote. “So we’re trying to get people to write to their congressmen about this bill and why they should support it because if they don’t, their local restaurants won’t survive this. [Congress] should sign this bill,” the campaign says. And whether or not it will come to that, getting rid of this president [Donald Trump] it is my main priority above my work.
Even if a pandemic could strike at any time, it would be extremely unfortunate if it happened so soon after a popular new restaurant opens in the Los Angeles area. Feniger and his longtime business partner, Mary Sue Milliken, launched Socalo, a casually chic Mexican cantina and pub in California, last December.
Long friendship and business cooperation between Feniger and Milliken. In fact, given their nearly 40-year relationship, it seemed their paths were destined to cross.
At the time Feniger was working at a French restaurant in Chicago, there was only one other woman in the kitchen, and that was Mary Sue, which is how the two first connected. “I thought the chef was a complete idiot.
Mary and I were the only women in the kitchen because all the other men were men. During our afternoon break, I would go to the bathroom with Mary Sue and start crying. (Feniger claims that the original head chef finally came out as gay a few years later and even applied to work for them once.)
