Sushmita Mukherjee is an Indian actor, screenwriter and playwright.

Sushmita Mukherjee, also known as Sushmita Bundela Mukherjee and Sushmita Devi, was born on August 20 in New Delhi . She is famous for her role as Katie in the detective TV series Karamchand. She began her career in the early 1980s. Mukherjee has made more than sixty films. She is best known for playing negative roles. Apart from being an actress, Sushmita is also an author, screenwriter and playwright.

Sushmita Mukherjee was born into a Brahmin family in Delhi. Her father worked in the government.
In 1978, Sushmita tied the knot with film director Sudhir Mishra. However, the couple parted ways.
Sushmita married actor, producer, activist and politician Raja Bundela in 1993. The couple has two sons, Rudransh and Rudranuj Bundela. Her eldest son works in advertising, while her younger son is studying for a PhD in New Zealand.

Sushmita Mukherjee studied at Jesus and Mary College, University of Delhi. In 1980, after graduation, she was admitted to the National Academy of Drama and studied acting from 1980 to 1983. Around the age of 15, she joined the Barry John Theater Company.
She made her acting debut in 1987 with “Yeh Woh Manzil To Nahin” alongside Naseeruddin Shah.
She came into limelight when she essayed the role of Katie in the detective drama Karamchand.
Sushmita Mukherjee has acted in more than sixty films. She is known for playing villains and supporting roles. She has acted in movies like “Main Zinda Hoon”, “Khalnayak”, “King Uncle”, “Sir”, “Dillagi”, “Kyaa Kool Hai Hum”, “Golmaal”, “Ugly Aur Pagli”, “Dostana”, etc. There are a lot more. She has been busy most of the time since she was doing theater with her husband Raja Bundela.
In 2006, she played the role of “Blind Mangaladadi” in the movie “Golmaa” and received huge appreciation.
In 2008, she entered Hollywood and starred in the film “The Other Side” starring Shriya Saran and Jesse Metcalf.
Apart from working in Bollywood films, Sushmita Mukherjee has also appeared in several television serials. She has even written scripts for various shows.
In 2018, Mukherjee appeared in the TV miniseries Imperfect.
In 2019, she starred in Amazon Prime’s web series Mind The Malhotras, starring Cyrus Sahukar and Mini Mathur.
Sushmita Mukherjee worked as a script assistant for Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s film Khamosh. In 2018, she made her debut as a writer with the novel “Mee and Juhibaby”. It took her eleven years to complete the book.
She manages her husband’s production company ‘Prayas Production’. Sushmita Mukherjee also runs her NGO ‘Rudrani Kalagram’, an arts village in Madhya Pradesh.
