The Repair Shop is back on BBC One and Jay Blades and crew are looking to make some new viewers happy. Chippenham resident Malcolm Jordan brings in a 65-year-old leather filing cabinet for Suzie Fletcher to restore. Despite a rocky start, Suzie joined the show at the start of the second season and has never looked back.
Five years before her debut on the show, in 2013, she experienced the death of her husband, which she called one of the biggest shocks she had ever experienced. After coming to the US to work as a master saddler in Illinois, Suzie met her husband in Colorado.
He was only expected to spend two years in the US, but ended up living there for 22 years before returning to the UK. After a battle with cancer that began while they were living together in the US, her husband passed away.
“My family was amazing, but I knew they shouldn’t worry too much,” she said on the Relatively podcast. “I had a pretty good support group among my friends in the United States. “I think I tried to prevent them from learning too much, especially since my mother was still alive and she would have been very worried if she thought she wouldn’t be able to handle it.
“To be completely honest, when we got the news, I realized that my priority is to give my husband what he wants, no matter how difficult it seems. He would try to fulfill his wish to travel to the moon. She was devastated. for her death, but she used the Repair Shop as a method to move on with her life.
She talked about how the program helped her through many difficult times and even motivated her to enroll in the course. She added: “It seemed like Steve was having a blast every time he called, so I jokingly said, ‘If you need someone to do skin, I’m your girl.'”
