She was born on October 29, 1996 in a family below the poverty line in India. Swapna is from West Bengal, India. In 2013, her father became bedridden after a stroke, and the pressure of supporting the family fell on Swapna’s shoulders. Despite her injuries, she still has to compete in national level events or tournaments or competitions so that she can support her family with her winnings. Her struggle continued till 2017 when she started receiving a scholarship from the ‘GoSports’ foundation through the ‘Rahul Dravid Athlete Mentorship Programme’ and a regular stipend from ONGC. The athlete also won first place in the heptathlon at the 2017 Asian Athletics Championships held at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar.she was trained in Sports Authority of India Netaji Subhash Eastern Centre, Kolkata.

Her mother revealed in an interview that she did not watch Swapna’s victory in the Asian Games. She locked herself in the temple and kept praying to “Kali Mata” for her victory.

After completing her studies, she got admitted to Charuchandra College, Kolkata. When she first came to coach Subhash Sarkar for high jump training, she was turned down. He’s also looking for athletes in other sports. Swapna’s high jump performance was so full of power and immortality that he changed his mind and chose her for training.
In 2014, she finished fifth at the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea. In 2016, in recognition of her talent, she was awarded a scholarship of Rs 1.50 lakh. Swapna finished first in the heptathlon at the 2017 Asian Athletics Championships at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar. She also won a gold medal at the 2017 Federation Cup in Patiala.
The athlete is said to have broken many of her own records.
