Swapna Suresh started working in passenger services at Abu Dhabi Airport soon after completing her studies. Thereafter, she moved to India for some time and joined a travel agency in Trivandrum where she worked for two years. In 2013, she started working as HR Head at Air India Sats. During his tenure with the company, Swapna Suresh, with the assistance of some senior executives of the organization, conspired with an airport staff member to prepare fake signatures of 17 female employees in a sexual harassment case. Soon, the staff member filed a police complaint against Swapna Suresh; however, her influence prevented the investigation. Subsequently, she joined the UAE Consulate in Kerala Branch in 2016 as Secretary of the Consulate General. During her tenure with the organization, she established a number of contacts in social, bureaucratic and political circles by introducing herself as a diplomat. The office reportedly suspended her a year ago over an alleged criminal case. Later, senior Kerala IAS officer and IT secretary M Sivasankar recommended Swapna Suresh to the Kerala State Information Technology Infrastructure Limited (KSITIL) and appointed her as the marketing director of the organization. Swapna Suresh was charged by the Enforcement Directorate of India in the 2020 Kerala gold smuggling case along with Sarith Kumar, Fazil Farid, Sandeep Nair, M.Sivasankar and Rashed Khamis Ali Musaiqri Alshemeli. M Sivasankar was also suspended due to his relationship with Swapna Suresh. The investigation team revealed that M Sivasankar used forged educational documents to appoint her as a temporary contractor at PwC. Soon, the police launched an investigation into KSITIL and into PwC for identifying her. KSITIL officials claimed,
Suresh was a graduate and qualified for the job, and her brother, who lives abroad, told the media that she had not even completed her state school board exams. One of her former travel agency colleagues also expressed doubts about her qualifications, saying she had only completed Level 12. “
During this investigation, it was revealed that she had also caused some financial discrepancies in an apartment construction project in Vadakanchery. However, Swapna Suresh was granted bail on October 5, 2020. The Enforcement Directorate of India has probed Anil Nambiar, a television journalist and coordinating editor of Janam TV, for his association with Swapna Suresh while smuggling gold in the 2020 Kerala gold smuggling case. Caught by customs on July 5, 2020. In June 2022, former minister KT Jaleel leveled fresh conspiracy charges against her.
