Swati Piramal Born as Swati Shah, she was born into a family with a business background. In the mid-1970s, she met businessman and future husband Ajay Piramal. Ajay is involved in his family’s textile business. Ajay and Swati fell in love and got married in 1976. Swati did well in studies and continued her studies after marriage and received her MBBS degree.
In 1982, Mumbai’s textile industry was hampered due to the Datta Sawant strike. Swati suggested her husband to start a pharmaceutical company and so in 1988, after a lot of struggle and investment of about Rs 16 crore, Ajay Piramal acquired a pharmaceutical company called “Nicholas Laboratories”. He changed the company’s name to “Nicholas Piramal”. In the same year, Swati was appointed as the Vice Chairman of ‘Piramal Enterprises Limited’. Their decision to join a new venture becomes the best decision of their lives.
Swati Piramal not only works for her family business but has also been a part of many national, international, private and government projects and companies. She has been a team leader on research projects for treatments for a variety of diseases including cancer, diabetes, arthritis, osteoporosis, malaria, epilepsy, polio, arthritis, inflammation and infectious diseases. In the mid-1970s, she met Ajay Piramal and fell in love. In 1976, the two got married with the blessing of their families.
