T.J. Holmes Says He Needs to ‘Check Out’ for 2 Days After Arguments with Amy Robach: ‘Have to Work Through It’

TJ Holmes and Amy Robach don’t fight often. But when disagreements arise between them, half of them resort to a unique method of coping.

In the latest episode of their Amy & TJ podcast, ex GMA3: What you need to know The co-hosts discussed how they each deal with the arguments — or, as they called them, “hiccups” — when they arise about once a week.

“I’m really, really bad about this. I don’t scream, I don’t shout, I don’t do anything. I don’t call names, I don’t get aggressive. Nothing, but I’ll sign off,” explained Holmes, 46. “You don’t need to tell me ‘I’m sorry.’ You don’t need to help me. I have to get through it and I’m trying to do it faster.”

But when Robach does apologize, Holmes doesn’t like how long it takes her to do so.

“It drives me crazy. Why? Because ‘I’m sorry’ comes 24 hours late,” he continued. “It makes all the difference in the world how you react in the moment because in that moment we have the opportunity to go this way or that way. And if you leave that way, I’m out. I’m done. … I’m signed out for today.”

Robach, for her part, said she doesn’t like Holmes’ need to cook for so long — a period that usually lasts about two days.

“It’s at least two days,” she said. “I’d rather have him yell at me than freeze me for two days… I’m like, I don’t know what to say, what to do, what’s he thinking.”

Fortunately, these weekly hiccups don’t seem to affect the couple’s relationship. On last week’s episode of the podcast, Robach and Holmes discussed the possibility of marriage.

“It’s under consideration,” said Robach, 50. “We didn’t get into this relationship for fun or to ‘see what happens.’ We got into this relationship because we intended to spend our lives together. So whether or not we have some sort of legal, you know, I don’t know, button on that.”

Robach went on to admit that the former GMA3: What you need to know However, the co-hosts are in no rush to walk down the aisle.

“We both have two marriages behind us, so it’s not something we rush or rush into,” she explained. “But there’s something, I get it, it’s that thing that I can’t even explain why there’s this desire, but I want to spend the rest of my life with you, I can say that. It’s on the table. It’s on the table.”

Holmes, meanwhile, admitted that the couple’s ages play a role in his desire to get married.

“I want to marry you, partly because you’re 50 and I’m 46. And I’m tired of presenting a 50-year-old woman as my girlfriend. It just sounds stupid – he said.

“Thank you for noticing the age difference,” Robach laughed.

When news of the couple’s workplace romance broke in November 2022, Robach did not confirm her split from actor husband Andrew Shue, nor did Holmes confirm her separation from her attorney wife Marilee Fiebig. However, a source previously told PEOPLE that both couples split in August 2022.

On last week’s episode of their podcast, the couple shared that they knew “something else was developing” between them during the summer of 2022.

“We kind of talked about it, and I didn’t want to say anything. You didn’t want to say anything, but as we went through last summer, things definitely changed and we started talking,” he said.

Robach explained that they “spent so much time together at work.” She added: “We didn’t want it to end.”
