Schools closed in Tamil Nadu: District Collectors have announced the closure of schools due to heavy rains that have lashed the districts. According to media reports, classes 1 to 5 will remain closed in Vellore and Ranipet today. However, students from the 6th grade onwards must attend classes because there are no holidays for them.

Thirukkalukundram, Cheyyur, Chengalpattu East Coastal Road, Thiruporur, Madhurathakam and Sholinganallur experienced moderate to heavy rain throughout the night. The IMD has predicted that light to moderate rain, thundershowers and lightning are possible at a few places in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal today. IMD predicts similar weather conditions with light to moderate rain for Wednesday and Thursday.

Schools closed in Tamil Nadu: Heavy rain expected in isolated areas

Besides, the IMD has observed the potential for isolated areas of heavy rain on Thursday, which could hit Cuddalore, Villupuram, Chengalpattu, Tiruvannamalai, Kancheepuram, Ranipet, Vellore, Tirupattur, Kallakurichi and Puducherry districts. Similar heavy rain is expected in those places on Friday. Light to moderate rain is likely at a few places in Tamil Nadu, Karaikal and Puducherry during the weekend.

Schools in Bangalore closed due to Bandh

Meanwhile, a bandh was called in Bengaluru to protest the government’s decision to release Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu. According to reports, the Karnataka Combined Management of Primary and Secondary Schools (KAMS) has extended its support to the bandh and schools and colleges are officially closed today: 26 September 2023.

Pro-Kannada organizations have announced a Bengaluru-Bandh to oppose state-run dams that release water from the Cauvery River into Tamil Nadu. The bandh and shutdown across the state is supported by organizations that have appealed to schools, colleges and other private organizations.
