Tan France Reportedly ‘Campaigned’ to Replace Bobby Berk with Jeremiah Brent on Queer Eye

Tan France may have had a hand in the decision to replace Bobby Berk with Jeremiah Brent strange eye according to the new Rolling stone report.

A report published on Tuesday claimed that there were numerous tensions among the Fab Five and the show’s cast, including allegations of emotionally “abusive” behavior and “anger issues” against Jonathan Van Ness, citing sources. (A representative for Van Ness did not respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.)

Three unnamed sources told the paper that France “campaigned to replace Berk” with Brent with the “alleged support” of actor Antonio Porowski.

Representatives of Netflix, France and Berk did not respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

The streaming service revealed that Brent will take over Berk’s position as the show’s interior design guru on February 27, three months after Berk first announced he was leaving the show.

Brent, who stars alongside her husband and fellow designer Nate Berkus on HGTV Design by Nate & Jeremiah and Nate and Jeremiah’s house project, also appeared on Netflix Say yesdeveloped by the same creators as A strange eye. France was a guest on Brent’s podcast in April.

Berk is in an interview for vanity fair in January.

“I hope this interview helps quell some of the speculation,” Berk said. “I want people to know that Tan and I will be fine.”

Although he admitted there was a “situation” between the two colleagues and that he unfollowed France on Instagram because of it, he said they had moved on.

“Tan and I had a moment,” Berk said. “There was a situation, between Tan and me, and it has nothing to do with the show. It was something personal that was brewing – and nothing romantic, just to be clear.”

“Should I have stopped following Tan? No,” Berk continued. “Maybe I should have just shut him up. But that day I was angry and that’s the end of it. We became like siblings – and siblings will always fight.”

Berk said vanity fair that when he and his co-stars, including Jonathan Van Ness and Karamo Brown, finished filming the eighth season in New Orleans, he thought it would be the end of the series, since the seven-cycle contract they signed ended in September 2022 ..

On the last day of filming, he said: “The Fab Five and the crew, we were all standing there taking pictures and crying. We thought we were done. Mentally and emotionally, I thought we had all moved on. I know I did and I started planning other things.”

However, due to the SAG/AFTRA strike, Netflix needed original content and decided to renew A strange eye.

“We just assumed the show wouldn’t come back unless we all came back,” Berk said. “I thought I wasn’t going to FOMO because the show wasn’t going to happen. I’ve come to terms with it.”

However, four of Berk’s teammates have decided to renew their contracts.

“There was definitely emotion,” Berk said. “But each of us had our own reasons for doing what we did. I can’t be mad – for a moment I was.”

Berk announced his departure from A strange eye in November, with a heartfelt message to the show’s fan community on Instagram.

“The love I have received from you over the past 6 years has been absolutely surreal,” he wrote. “You pitched in and were devoted fans and together we were able to share the healing powers of design. The way you embraced me and accepted me for who I am is something I will truly carry with me for the rest of my life.”

He thanked the “die-hard fans” of A strange eye and praised the show’s “wonderful, loving, amazing and brave” heroes before officially confirming his departure from the show: “It is with a heavy heart that I announce that Season 8 will be my last season on A strange eye. It was not an easy decision to be at peace, but a necessary one. Although my journey with A strange eye is over, my journey with you is not. You’ll be seeing more of me very soon.”

Shortly after the announcement, a source close to the situation told PEOPLE that Berk has nothing against her colleagues. “Bobby’s departure is not related to relations with his colleagues,” the source said. “The parting was amicable.”
