Tarek El Moussa Reads the Meanest Comments on His 43rd Birthday Post: What's 'That Mop on His Head?'

Tarek El Moussa is having a good laugh at the “haters” who commented on his recent birthday post.

The HGTV star, who turned 43 on Aug. 21, reflected on his age in an Instagram post the following week, writing, “Oh my gosh I still can’t believe I’m 43!!! Big shout out to whoever created Botox!”

In the following video posted to Instagram on Monday, September 2, Tarek and his wife, Heather El Moussa, react to some of the meanest responses he’s received on social media.

“Haters gonna hate, and man, did they succeed!” Tarek captioned the clip. “I saw one comment and couldn’t stop reading it — seriously, I couldn’t stop laughing! 🤣🤣 Sometimes you have to appreciate the creativity of the internet!”

Christina Hall wished ex Tarek El Moussa a happy 43rd birthday with a comment on his wife Heather’s post

In the clip, Tarek reads one critical comment saying: “I want to see an ID. There’s no way she’s only 43,” asks Heather, 36, “Do they think you’re older or younger?”

“At least 50,” Tarek replies, laughing.

“Oh my god this is so good,” she added, quoting another commenter who wrote: “He got more than botox, looks like he bought a new hair clip.”

“Oh honey, people hate your hair too?” Heather asks as Tarek continues to shoot.

Tarek continues to read more insults, such as “Bro, you look every minute of 43” and “Sad news, you look like you’re 45.” “What’s with that rag on his head?” someone else asked.

Tarek closes the video, explaining that he and Heather started reading the comments because Heather told him she liked his hair in one of the photos from the original post, which was taken during a birthday trip to Tampa.

Dermatologist Alastair Carruthers, who introduced Botox for cosmetic use, has died at 79.

Tarek’s ex-wife Christina Hall commented twice on the funny video, writing “Hair piece” and “Dead” along with a skull emoji.

Heather’s ex Sale Sunset Actor Chrishell Stause also responded to the video, writing: “If you can laugh, you won.”

In Tarek’s August 28 birthday post, he shared that he and Heather celebrated the special day with “amazing friends” during their time in Florida.

“The trip was the perfect mix of work and pleasure – just what we needed! From sunny adventures to unforgettable moments, it was a birthday to remember,” he wrote.

He ended the post by thanking his followers for “all the amazing birthday wishes” and adding, “I appreciate you all.”

In addition to being open about his cosmetic treatments, Tarek was also candid about the medical struggles he’s faced over the past decade.

Earlier this year, Flipping the El Moussas star recalled her past challenges, including steroid addiction, in her sweeping memoir, Turn your life around.

In the book, published in February 2024, he talks about a series of painful experiences, including a diagnosis of thyroid cancer in 2013, followed shortly after by a diagnosis of testicular cancer.

He was able to overcome both thanks to several surgeries and radioactive iodine therapy, but faced another challenge when he suffered a “debilitating” back injury while playing golf.

During an exclusive interview with PEOPLE in January, Tarek opened up about the “emotional roller coaster” of recounting those events and his recovery in the book.

“The bottom line is that anything is possible. Literally, anything is possible. You just have to start. Most people never start,” he said. “Take that first step. Take that first walk… Just start.”
