Takishore was born on Thursday, January 5, 1956 (64 years old in 2020) in Talkhua village of Saharsa district in Bihar. His full name is Takishore Prasad Bhagat. Prasad completed his secondary education from Katihar High School in 1970 and then from Darshan Sah College in Katihar. Takishore has been associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) since his youth. He held various senior positions in the RSS and then used the RSS ladder to gradually enter politics.

Political career

In 2005, Takishore won the Bihar Legislative Assembly elections from Katihar constituency by a narrow margin of 165 votes. Since then, he has been re-elected four times in a row. In the 2020 Bihar Legislative Assembly elections, he won from Katihar constituency by defeating Ram Prakash Mahato of RJD by a margin of 10,000 votes. After winning the 2020 Bihar Legislative Assembly elections, the NDA government in Bihar appointed him and Renu Devi as the two deputy chief ministers of Bihar. He holds the portfolios of finance, commercial taxes, environment, forest and disaster management, urban development and information technology in the Bihar government. He is also the leader of the legislative party of the BJP in Bihar.

  • Takishore Prasad has been accused by the opposition parties several times of tampering with his date of birth, which is indeed true. According to his 2005 election affidavit filed with the Election Commission, his age was 48, while in the election affidavit filed in 2010, his age was increased by only one year to 49. The same happened in 2015, when he filled in his age as 52. In 2020, his age chronology was messed up again, and his age increased by 12 years in a period of 5 years.
  • Tarkishore Prasad was booked for “exerting undue influence or impersonating another person in elections”; however, he was not convicted based on the charges against him.
  • According to the election affidavit filed by Takishore Prasad with the Election Commission of India, he is a farmer and businessman by profession besides being a politician.
  • Takishore Prasad once mispronounced Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s name during a press conference. The video of the incident went viral on the internet. As a result, he was ridiculed by the opposition and netizens on social media platforms.
