Tate McRae Calls Britney Spears Comparisons 'Flattering and Scary'

Tate McRae mixed feelings compared to Britney Spears.

The singer, 21, opened up to compare himself with a pop icon, 43, in a recent interview IndependentTime to the release of your third studio album, So closewho made his debut on Friday, February 21st.

McRae said she felt that a comparison with young spears was “flattering and scary”.

“It’s such a crazy statement because no one can compare to Britney Spears,” she continued. “It’s like comparing someone to Michael Jackson! That’s a draft!”

The singer of the “sports car” told People in an exclusive interview in 2023 that the music video for her single “Exes” has drawn the inspiration of choreography from Spears and Christine Aguilera.

“Obviously, we took inspiration from the greats, like Britney and Christina, and we really wanted to make only a complete dance music video,” McRae said at the time. “I dreamed of making a dance music video with full choreography – the dance is the most prominent thing in the music video – so long. So it definitely refers to some of my biggest idols.”

At the time, the performer told people that comparisons with a “poisonous” singer “were obviously honored.” She added, “I mean, Britney is a queen. People will compare new artists with things that have happened in the past, so it’s obviously very cool to hear such comments.”

McRae’s last album leaked online before the planned release. The singer addressed the incident during the event of listening to the album with Spotify in the Los Angeles living room, February 18th, saying that she felt “devastated” to find out that some of her songs appeared on the network on the eve of her release.
