Taye Diggs sinks his teeth into one deadly role.
The actor leads the cast Love and Murder: Atlanta Playboya new two-parter premiering on BET+ on September 21st and 28th.
PEOPLE has an exclusive premiere trailer for the movie based on the book Redbone: Money, Evil and Murder in Atlanta by Ron Stodghill.
Set in Atlanta, Georgia in 1996, the film serializes the true story of Lance Herndon (Diggs), a millionaire tech guru who is found brutally murdered in his home.
“Known in equal measure for revolutionizing the city’s 911 system and his womanizing ways,” explains the official plot description, the investigation soon brings “a lot of questions and accusations about who could have wanted him dead.”

That’s certainly evident in the preview, which shows both jealous lovers and bitter rivals baring their teeth at Herndon.
“You’re going to pay for this, I promise,” Herndon’s wife Blair (Keesha Sharp) screams at him after she finds him in bed with another woman named Harmony (Apryl Jones), while another lover named Sophia (Ciera Payton) threatens , “You’d be a fool, Lance, to do that to me.”
“In a city full of ambitious people, it could be a dangerous competition,” says one contestant.
Viewers then see Herndon say to some opponents, “I think you better know your place” – and hear his business partners claim that “they’ll be damned if that Lance Herdon swoops in and takes the millions that belong to us.”

All those words carry even more weight after Herndon was killed as he lay in his bed.
“The guy was ambushed; he had no idea what was going on,” says Detective Colin De Luca (David Vaughn) as he works with prosecutor Ryan Sullivan (Tye White).
“Everyone is a suspect until they are not. It’s all about motive and opportunity,” they continue. “For his lovers, it would be a crime of passion…revenge. For his business partners, millions slip through your fingers. Now that Lance is dead, he’s yours again.”
“Our list of murder suspects is already growing,” authorities added. “Everybody’s getting shadier by the minute.”

Herndon’s murder made headlines after he was found on August 8, 1996. Before his death, his success as the founder of the computer consulting firm Access led to President Bill Clinton’s appointment to the White House Small Business Conference in 1995.
Besides Diggs, Love and Murder: Atlanta Playboy also starring Nicole Lyn, Ernestine Johnson, Ty White, Anton Peeples, Yung Joc, Karlie Redd and Yandy Smith. The film was directed by Jaira Thomas and written by Gregory R. Anderson.
