Why did Severide leave the Chicago Fire?
In January 2023, it was confirmed that the 41-year-old actor, currently playing the role of Lt. Kelly Severide, will be taking a break from the NBC show to deal with a personal matter.
The script was quickly rewritten and fans saw Severide leave Chicago on Wednesday’s March 1 episode. It started with Lt. Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) in the apartment she shares with her husband, Severide, before going to work alone.
The episode then shifts to Firehouse 51 and Captain Van Meter walks into Deputy Sheriff Wallace Boden’s office, where they exchange tense words. “I want to explain,” Van Meter began, Boden retorted, “Why are you announcing the dismissal of my unit’s lieutenant?”

“To be fair, he could say no, but this is the best fire investigation training in the world, please rest assured,” continued Van Meter, “a last minute opening like that. this is the opportunity of a lifetime for Sevreride. After meeting him hunting proof of that EV charger last month, I couldn’t think of a better man.”
“That doesn’t mean he plans to move to OFI,” Van Meter insisted, before saying that he feels the expertise Severide will bring “will benefit the entire division.”
It was later revealed that the training took place in Alabama.

In the final episode of Season 11, it is revealed that Severide is no longer in Alabama after agreeing to investigate a massive arson after impressing the instructors on his course. However, he did not tell his wife nor his team and the move was discovered by Joe Cruz after one of the academy heads spilled a glass.

Did Taylor Kinney leave the Chicago Fire?

However, it has been confirmed that the main cast of Season 12, which includes Miranda, Hanako Greensmith, David Eigenberg and Kara Killmer, will appear in fewer episodes than usual due to budget cuts.
The series’ producers, Universal Television and Wolf Entertainment, have reached an agreement with NBC that the series will continue to air for another season on the condition that the actors will no longer appear for 22 episodes. but between 18 and 20.
