School teachers team up to share a holiday PSA.
Natalie Parmenter, a former kindergarten teacher, recently shared a video on TikTok highlighting gifts that teachers don’t want to receive during the holiday season.
“Number one, another cup,” she began. “We have pencil cups, we have plants that grow in cups – that’s it. Cups are enough.”
Patricia Britton, another teacher, said in her own TikTok video while holding a cup in the store: “Don’t give us this.”
“We teachers don’t want more cups. I have a cupboard full of them and I don’t need any more,” continued the teacher.

Speaking to Today.com, Parmenter doubled down on the claim that teachers don’t like receiving mugs as gifts, using her personal experience.
“When I moved in with my husband, he asked me to clean out my cups because they were filling up two cabinets in our kitchen,” she told the outlet. “The last thing we need is another comically oversized mug that can’t be washed in the washing machine.”

However, she admitted that she and other educators do not want to sound ungrateful, because “teachers always appreciate gifts.”
“Whether it’s a student’s artwork or a handwritten card. It means a lot because we work so hard and we don’t always get the recognition,” continued Parmenter.
But if gifting something purchased for a parent is a must, she said, “Teachers love getting a gift card — no matter the dollar amount. It’s the thought that counts.”
