The eighth season of the long-running Teen Titans Go! is ongoing, and it continues to provide fun and easy laughs for all ages. While it may not be as serious as the original Teen Titans or Titans, the show still has its moments of brilliance and has procured a strong fanbase because of it.
While it’s mostly targeted at younger fans, Teen Titans Go! still has its fair share of older fans who have been making memes about the show. Some of those memes do a great job of perfectly summing the series up.
10 Pokes Fun At Itself
As much as Teen Titans Go! is often considered a poor replacement for Teen Titans, a highlight of the show is its willingness to crack jokes at its own expense. With a much less serious tone, the show often includes scenes where the Titans make fun of their own mythos, just like the official Twitter account makes fun of the show.
The best Robin moments in Go! come when the Boy Wonder jokes about how many other Robins there are or when he tried to join the Justice League, and the best Beast Boy moments involve strange and somewhat useless transformations. The show even pokes fun at DC often for how ridiculous some of the plots can be.
9 The Team Has Very Different Powers
While Robin is one of the first members of DC’s teen team, he’s not exactly well-suited for the many fights he has to face as a superhero. After all, facing off against supervillains without Batman at his side often makes him incredibly underpowered compared to his friends.
It may not always be an issue in an unserious show like Teen Titans Go! but the power differential between the characters is fairly obvious. Beast Boy can transform into any animal, Raven has demonic powers, Cyborg has cybernetic enhancements, and Starfire can fly and shoot beams of power. It’s why Robin clearly isn’t powerful enough in the show, thanks to the fact that his intelligence is ignored. This is, after all, why he eventually gains avocado powers.
8 Hated By Adults, But Kids Love It
Because it replaced Teen Titans, Go! has earned the ire of many nostalgic fans. After all, the original series was brilliant and helped get many people interested in DC for the first time. So the fact that it was replaced by a show with a very different tone was inevitably going to raise some ire.
Kids without those memories, however, love it – as do many other categories of viewers. After all, it’s incredibly entertaining, and the characters are perfectly suited for countless strange situations. It may be an unpopular Teen Titans opinion, but kids just don’t care enough about the first series to despise its sequel.
7 An Odd Upgrade
It’s hard not to compare the three major on-screen versions of the Titans. While some love to criticize the new cartoon, it still is somewhat of an upgrade. After all, the original series wasn’t fit for every member of the family, but Go! definitely suits everyone.
All three of these shows have very different audiences, so they each have different goals. Go! focuses on the youngest possible fans. Teen Titans was aimed at older kids and teens. Titans is aimed at adults. Each are upgrades in different ways, even if the wider fanbase have a range of views about each show.
6 The Team Isn’t Always Smart
As much as the team features some smart characters like Robin, that doesn’t mean they will always show off that intelligence. Because the show is made for comedy, the characters often have to make ridiculous mistakes just for the plot to progress properly.
Characters will often mistake each other for other people or else make confusing choices that leave villains in the perfect situation to pit the Titans against one another. Even the best Teen Titans members are not immune to it, as they live in a giant tower like a T, yet are constantly surprised that their enemies find them.
5 Just A Fun Show
The Teen Titans are a team with a roster that comes and goes. While other versions of the team feature the most powerful members of the Teen Titans, Teen Titans Go! embraced its roster completely. With goofy characters, coupled with ridiculous backstories, the show has certainly found some ground to play around with its team.
Viewers who cannot stand the show can always return to the original Teen Titans or Titans, but there still is a place for a fun DC show for kids. It’s a unique take on the characters that cannot be found anywhere else. Just because it shares a name with another show doesn’t mean it deserves ridicule.
4 Not For Everyone
The show is family-friendly and aimed at younger kids. That means that it isn’t meant for everyone. After all, fans of darker material or more plot-driven shows will be better off looking for other DC content. Thankfully, that content still exists and is actively being produced.
So, while Teen Titans Go! isn’t what fans of those shows were looking for, it was never going to be. The team members are lazy and argumentative, and they seem more like roommates than a superhero squad. That’s what the show was always going to be, and kids enjoy it, so it’s what it needs to be.
3 Not Particularly Serious
Unlike DC content aimed at more serious audiences, Teen Titans Go! features a cutesy art style. Its simple designs help to impose lower stakes on the series, which is what makes its humor work so well. The bright colors also help to keep kids engaged.
The show also features quick cuts, which can also keep kids focused. Go! is built for kids, which is why all the characters are short, bright, and adorable. It’s perfect for its purpose, which is why the show has been able to reach its eighth season with ease.
2 Airs Constantly
Since it originally came to Cartoon Network, Teen Titans Go! has become a major piece of the channel’s line-up. On many occasions, the channel will be little more than a marathon for the series, which is a major departure from its old varied cast of shows.
As one of the best Cartoon Network shows for kids, there’s nothing wrong with airing the show often. Still, the channel having back to back marathons likely only alienates those who don’t enjoy the show even more. There should be more shows airing throughout the day, so that anyone who doesn’t particularly like Go! won’t have to sit through it for hours at a time.
1 Prime Cartoon Network Show
As much as the show is definitely aired too often, it still manages to be exactly what Cartoon Network is looking for. Go! has short and easy-to-digest episodes that can be aired in any order, lacks a long-standing narrative, and manages to entertain people all the same.
Teen Titans Go! is built for syndication, which is exactly what Cartoon Network is looking for. It may not be what fans expected, but it accomplished its every goal. Given the number of memes about the show, it’s clear it has struck home with many viewers – even if its legacy is a complicated one.
