Teaching French in schools in Telangana

Telangana Tribal Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society (TTWREIS) and Telangana Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society (TSWREIS) signed an agreement with Institut Français en Inde (IFI – French Institute in India) to start teaching French in government schools.

French will be introduced in more than 20 schools affiliated to TSWREIS or TTWREIS. Once the students’ response is seen, the language will be introduced to other schools. Students from 6th to 12th grade will learn French.

TSWREIS, TTWREIS collaborates with IFI in teaching French

IFI will train TSWREIS and TTWREIS teachers of communicative French. It will provide students with access to academic and cultural platforms. Furthermore, workshops and seminars will be held to educate students about French university studies and scholarship opportunities.

The agreement was signed by E Naveen Nicolas, Secretary, TSWREIS, Emmanuel Lebruns-Damiens, Thierry Berthelot, Consul General of France in Bangalore and Director of the French Institute in India.

Nicolas acknowledged his enthusiasm for the French Institute in India’s deep interest in the relationship, the first of its kind in Telangana. “Education is a guiding tool for achieving the goal of social justice. The partnership will not only pave the way for success in a deeply connected world, but will also focus on building the capacity of in-house teachers to teach French in the long run,” he added.

Lebrun-Damiens said, “The Government of Telangana and France share a similar philosophy of education, which emphasizes the importance of preparing students to succeed in a globalized world. Education is a priority among all collaborations between France and India. Learning French can be a transformative experience for students, opening up new academic and professional opportunities.”
