Temjen joined politics in 2018 when he was elected to the Nagaland Legislative Assembly from Alontaki (Mokokchung) constituency. In 2018, he became a member of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly from the Alontaki constituency and in the same year became the Minister of Higher and Technical Education, Rio Nefi IV. Facing strong opposition from United Naga Council (UNC)
In 2021, regarding the Naga political issues after the establishment of the Core Committee on Naga Political Issues (CCNPI), he said that the central government is ready to resolve the Naga political issues, but the Naga people must fully accept the solution. He said in an interview,
The Government of India (GOI) under Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah is ready to provide solutions, but are we fully inclusive in accepting it? The Government of India is making all efforts and commitment to the people of Nagaland. One cannot blame the BJP if the solution does not materialize. It’s as if the BJP can only be blamed for not solving the problem. Today, if the PPP government says this is the solution, will everyone accept it? ”
The United Naga Council (UNC) is not satisfied with Imna’s statement. The University of North Carolina said in a press statement,
This is very unfortunate and premature for a “young political novice”. We hope he turns a new leaf because he still has a long way to go. ”
After facing strong opposition from tribal groups and social organisations, he expressed grief over hurting people’s sentiments. He said,
Any solution should be governed by the Constitution of India and the Union of India. Therefore, as per the Constitution of India, whatever is beneficial to the Naga people should be pursued and done. I appeal to all fellow Nagas as well as the Government of India to work out an honorable and sustainable solution so that tomorrow’s Naga generation can live with dignity. ”
Blackmailed for vulgar video
In 2022, Temjen filed a complaint with the state police’s cybercrimes unit, accusing an anonymous person of blackmailing him with an adult video that had been altered. According to him, his image was used in adult videos with the help of computer graphics, thus ruining his reputation. The anonymous person demanded ransom from him and blackmailed him to upload the vulgar video on social media if the total amount was not paid. Inma said,
I have filed a complaint against that number (which the criminals called). If anyone receives a message like this, please report it to me by sending me the ID or phone number…help me find the culprit. I will take good care of him as per our Naga style. ”
