On Saturday, Kerala BJP president K Surendran said Hamas leader Khaled Mashal had virtually attended a demonstration against Israel’s conflict with the militant outfit, organized by an Islamist outfit in the state. Surendran confirmed that Mashal attended Friday’s gathering organized by Jamaat-e-Islami’s youth wing, the Solidarity Youth Movement, in a Facebook post. Sharing a poster showing Mashal’s attendance at the Malappuram event organized by the Movement district, the BJP leader said this was the breadth of the crisis in Kerala, a traditionally secular state.
“The terrorist leaders of Hamas participate in the festivities themselves. He only participated virtually because he could not secure a visa. The objectives of the organizers were clear,” observed Surendran. BJP state vice president VT Rema commented on Hamas leader Khaled Mashal’s attendance at pro-Palestinian protests in Kerala, saying, “It was shocking news to hear.” The fact that a group of Islamic terrorists have exposed their true motives in a secular nation like India’s southernmost state, Kerala, is horrifying and possible. The BJP chief pleaded with the Kerala police and federal agencies to look into the matter in more detail. Despite this, the state president of the Youth Solidarity Movement, Suhaib CT, defended the virtual involvement of the Hamas leader.
