For one Texas couple who have been married for more than six decades, birthdays really are a family affair.
William and Irene Masters of Burleson were born on the same day and year: January 13, 1934. But they’re not the only ones in the family who share a birthday: their youngest daughter, Charlotte Masters Wilson, was born on the same day. day 1963
The trio celebrated their big day together last week, with William and Irene turning 90, while Charlotte turned 61.
“Dad loves it because he never has to worry about forgetting Mom’s birthday,” Charlotte tells PEOPLE. “So that was great. The anniversary can be a little problematic, but we usually help him. And they have been married for 64 years.”

Irene, a retired teacher, says she first met William through one of his friends. “I thought, ‘God, he’s so handsome,'” she recalls.

William and Irene met and then started dating. One day William asked Irene about her birthday. “I told him ‘Jan. 13, 1934,'” says Irene. Much to her surprise, when she asked him about his, he answered her the same.
“I was like, ‘Man, he’s teasing me,'” she notes. “I said, ‘Let me see your driver’s license.’ So he took out his driver’s license and saw that we did indeed have the same birthday.”

In another interesting twist, the couple – who married in 1959 – later found out they were born five hours apart.
“After we were married for a while, my husband would call me ‘old lady’ [to his friends]”, says Irene. “I felt tired of him calling me ‘old woman’. I thought, ‘I’m going to check this out.'”
“So I went and got our birth certificates. He was born at 7:45 in the morning. Exactly five hours later, at 12:45 in the afternoon, I was born,” she adds. “He’s the old one.”

The couple’s first child, Melinda, was born on November 30, 1960, the same day William received a job offer from Chevron Oil. On January 13, 1963, they gave birth to their second child, Charlotte, on her birthday, which was a few days after her due date.
“Of course, she was two days late and came on our birthday,” says Irene.
“I did my part,” adds Charlotte.

Charlotte, who is also a former teacher, says she didn’t realize how unusual it was to have the same birthday as her parents when she was a child.
“I’ve always liked it because it’s so much fun,” she says. “And when I got older, I realized that it was very unusual. And so I always felt extremely blessed with this opportunity to share my birthday with my parents.”
For their last birthday, the trio had lunch with relatives at a restaurant and then ate cake at home. “We thought about having a party but decided against it,” says Charlotte. “So it was very modest, but very beautiful. And also, mom and dad got a lot of birthday cards. I think at last count we had about 125 birthday cards.”

Although Melinda doesn’t have the same birthday as the rest of her family, Charlotte says her big sister has always been good fun about it.
“She was always our biggest fan. There were many times when our birthday was on Friday the 13th. And so she would give us good luck, like a four-leaf clover and a rabbit, just things like that to play,” says Charlotte. “She was always happier for us than anyone.”

As for celebrating 90 together, Irene says it was wonderful.
“We’re both a little surprised that we’ve made it to this age,” she says. “But we’re still together. It’s been really fun.”
And he adds that “they like to celebrate with Charlotte.”
“They’re both in really good health,” Charlotte says of her parents. “They are very active in the church. Dad serves as a greeter in the church. And they go to the gym three times a week. So they really are a great example to everyone about aging well. I’m just very grateful and very excited that we had the opportunity to reach this milestone.”
