Teyana Taylor Thought She Would Be ‘Banned’ from Met Gala for Bringing Food: ‘I Had a Whole Little Lunch’

Many prepare for the Met Gala by focusing on their makeup and wardrobe. For Teyana Taylor, preparation includes packing a lunch.

While appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Wednesday, Taylor and Jimmy Kimmel, 56, discussed the 32-year-old actress and singer’s three appearances at the Met Gala and the food she brings with her.

Last year, Taylor said, “I got greedy and brought in Chick-fil-A.” A year before that, the singer said she brought Popeye.

When asked by Kimmel how he manages to bring food with him, 2 America is coming the actress said: “So this is what I’m doing now. When I work with a designer, I ask them to design a bag — shout out to Thom Browne for making sure my bag (last) year was a big flower to hold the food in.”

Elaborating on what she brought from Chick-fil-A, Taylor said, “Some little pickle straws, balls… I had a whole little lunch.”

Bringing in outside food, Taylor said, involves some risk. “I thought I was going to get banned,” the singer said about the gala evening. “But honestly, Anna Wintour is the one because I thought I was going to get banned the first year I did it, and then they called me back and I was like ‘Yes, Anna! That’s my girl!’.”

The One thousand and one star continued: “I mean [Anna] said, ‘let him sneak his food in peace.'”

When Kimmel asked if Wintour, 74, knew about her sneaking food, Taylor quipped, “She probably found out now because you’re snitching. You brought this up. I didn’t mention this. So if they don’t call me back, Jimmy, we need to talk.”

Last year’s Met Gala allowed Taylor and those she shared to enjoy Chick-Fil-A and Skittles, but it also offered a sweet moment between some of Hollywood’s most legendary women.

During the interview, Kimmel pulled out a photo from the 2023 Gala, which shows Jennifer Lopez fixing Taylor’s dress while Margot Robbie and Billie Eilish looked on.

“I had to rattle and I was stuck in my clothes… I couldn’t get out of my dress,” Taylor explained. Laughing, she continued: “I was struggling in the corner by myself and JLo came over — it was like everyone pitched in — which was so iconic that JLo is. She asked ‘What’s going on?’ and I said, ‘Girl, I can’t take it off,’ and she was trying, and I said, ‘No, you gotta do it,’ and she said, ‘Bitch, I’m trying to help you,’ and I was like, ‘ Oh!’.”

Later, the actress said, Eilish and Robbie arrived.

“Then Billie came over and said, ‘Hey, what’s going on?’ then we tell her what happened, and then Margot came up and said something — I don’t know if she said she used to sew or whatever — but whatever it was, she seemed to be an expert at it,” Taylor told Kimmel, before adding, “And then she didn’t even know what to do… we were like the blind leading the blind, but it was an iconic moment.”
