It also fits this year’s theme: Entitled “Sleeping Beauties: Fashion Reawakening,” the Costume Institute’s upcoming exhibit will feature approximately 250 items, including 15 notable pieces like Charles Frederick Worth’s 1877 satin ball gown, spanning more than 400 years of history.

The walk will also include everything from a 17th-century Elizabethan-era English bodice to 21st-century pieces by modern fashion industry tastemakers including Phillip Lim, Stella McCartney and Connor Ives. In addition, it will showcase designs from legendary names in fashion, including Elsa Schiaparelli, Yves Saint Laurent, Christian Dior and Hubert de Givenchy.

Many works will be exhibited alongside contemporary tailoring, divided into a central exhibition and three additional zones – land, sea and sky – which, according to Andrew Bolton, the curator in charge, “is very much an ode to nature and an emotional poetics of fashion.”

“This innovative show will push the boundaries of our imaginations and invite us to experience the many facets of the work, to learn more about its history and, ultimately, to gain a deeper understanding of its beauty,” Max Hollein, CEO of the Met, noted Vogue.
