The Tripadvisor Travelers Choice Awards use both the quality and quantity of reviews to determine which beaches will be ranked first.
Unsurprisingly, several beaches in Europe dominated the top of the list, including Praia da Falésia, which was named the best in the world.
Located in Portugal’s Algarve, the beach topped the list thanks to its dramatic red cliffs, powder-soft sand and sunbathing walks.
Meanwhile, Spiaggia dei Conigli in Sicily took second place and La Concha Beach in Basque Country, Spain came in third.
While no UK beach has been named one of the world’s best on TripAdvisor, two UK hideaways have been named in a brand new category: World’s Best Sustainable Beaches.
CRYSTAL CLEAR WATER
Sustainable beaches are ranked using information from the Blue Flag program as well as tourist reviews.
TripAdvisor’s press release states: “[The] winners stand out for their commitment to sustainability, including sustainable transportation options, waste disposal and water quality.”
Sandbanks Beach in Poole, Dorset, was named the most sustainable beach in the world, while Saundersfoot Beach in Pembrokeshire, Wales came third.
Sandbanks Beach is a golden sandy beach with crystal clear water.
Located in Poole, the beach has held its Blue Flag status for the past 35 years.

Other facilities on the beach include toilets, showers, a beach cafe, a mini golf course and a beach volleyball net.
Barbecues are also allowed on the beach between 18:00 and 22:30 with strict observance of the beach instructions.
Dogs are allowed on the west side of the beach all year round, but other restrictions on the main beach apply from 1 May 2024 to 30 September 2024.
Sandbanks Beach is regularly praised by tourists on TripAdvisor.
One person wrote: “Simply the best beach, very clean with great views.”
Another person added: “The beach is amazing!”
IMMACULATELY CLEAN
Located in the small seaside town of Saundersfoot, the sandy beach is already a popular spot among tourists.
The beach is ideal for swimming, but it is also a good place for canoeing, sailing, windsurfing and fishing.
Saundersfoot Beach in South Wales also has a busy harbor with several cafes, pubs, shops and restaurants set in a pretty village.
Just like Sandbanks Beach, Saundersfoot Beach is praised by tourists on TripAdvisor.
One person said: “Clean beach with small shops, a couple of pubs and a fish and chip shop.”
While another added: “The main beach at Saundersfoot is spotlessly clean with clear shallow water.”
Meanwhile, two other beaches in Dorset have been named in the top 20 beaches in Europe by TripAdvisor.
Weymouth Beach was named the nineteenth best beach in Europe, while Bournemouth Beach was ranked twentieth.
Sarah Firshein, Head of Editorial at TripAdvisor, said: “Last year Tripadvisor received millions of beach reviews – it’s clear that our community absolutely loves them.
“But as our Travelers’ Choice lists reveal, there’s no one-size-fits-all ‘beach day’: our top 25 winners alone span 18 countries across five continents.
“The three most popular beaches are all in Europe, pushing the perennially popular Caribbean out of those spots – a sign that some travelers are keen to swap typical resort holidays for the shores of Portugal, Italy and beyond.”
If you don’t want to go abroad to enjoy a day at the beach, then a little-known beach has been voted the best beach in the UK.
Here’s a British seaside town that has been named the cheapest in the country.
