A new teaser poster for The Boys season 3 reveals Soldier Boy and six other supes for the Prime Video show. The Boys is based on the comic book from writer Garth Ennis and artist Darick Robertson, which is a more raunchy, hardcore re-imagining of the traditional superhero genre. Created by showrunner Eric Kripke, The Boys stars Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Anthony Starr, Erin Moriarty, Karen Fukuhara, Jessie T. Usher, Chace Crawford, Laz Alonso, Dominique McElligott, and Tomer Capon, as well as Giancarlo Esposito as Stan Edgar, the CEO of Vought International.
The Boys season 3 will see the introduction of new characters from the comic series, including Soldier Boy, played by Supernatural’s Jensen Ackles, who has long been teased as having a prominent role in the new season. Also joining the ranks is Laurie Holden (The Walking Dead) as Crimson Countess, Langston Kerman as Eagle the Archer, Sean Patrick Flanery as Gunpowder, Miles Gaston Villanueva as Supersonic, and Nick Wechsler as Blue Hawk. There was some speculation that Aya Cash’s Stormfront would reappear, even after the events of the season 2 finale, but the actress confirmed that the character will not appear in The Boys season 3.
Soldier Boy takes center stage in a new teaser poster for The Boys season 3, which appears to be a mock-up movie poster for Payback, which is the name of a superhero group that predates The Seven. Whether the poster alludes to a movie or something else has yet to be revealed, but the credits on the poster reveal the names of the characters featured on it, some of whom are already known. The names include Soldier Boy, Black Noir, Holden’s Crimson Countess, TNT (Tommy & Tessa), Mindstorm, Airburst, and Gunpower. The message attached to the reveal says, “This may or may not make more sense when we drop the trailer Monday,” which is sure to provide more context (and excitement) as more info is on the way. Take a look at the poster below:
The original members of Payback in the comics are Soldier Boy, Stormfront, Tek Knight, Swatto, Mind-Droid, Crimson Countess, and Eagle the Archer, which has more than a few similarities to Marvel’s The Avengers. The Boys series has taken liberties with changing up some of the characters and origins from the comics to fit the show and will no doubt be doing the same when they introduce Payback in The Boys season 3. While faithful to a point in adapting the comics, The Boys has established its own narrative as well, which works as a strong companion piece to the comic, although fans can expect to see many comic-centric aspects in the new 8-episode season, including the highly-controversial “Herogasm” storyline.
The Boys has proven to be a success, not only at parodying superhero shows (and superheroes in general), but also adding to the genre in a significant way. While the Disney+ and CW shows are more family-friendly, The Boys offers a more mature and adult-themed superhero show, which audiences are obviously hungry for given its popularity, as well as that of shows like HBO Max’s Peacemaker and Prime Video’s animated superhero show, Invincible. The Boys season 3 looks to be upping the ante in all aspects, adding more heroes, more villains, more violence, and more insanity, which is sure to add another feather in the cap for the series’ popularity. The Boys season 3 debuts on June 3 on Prime Video.
