The 2024 British Book Awards, also known as the Nibbies, are now accepting applications. This event celebrates books and the teams behind them that have been successful in 2023. It’s a big deal in the book world and attracts a lot of attention from readers and industry professionals alike. The ceremony will take place on May 13, 2024.
Last year’s event was a hit, with more than 1,000 people taking part in person, with many more joining online or at parties in Cardiff, Manchester and Edinburgh. There was also a lot of buzz on social media with 150 million views across hashtags. Winners such as Davina McCall, Bonnie Garmus and Louise Kennedy received a lot of media attention, including articles on BBC News and in magazines such as Stylist and Good Housekeeping.

Last year’s winners were delighted with their prizes. For example, Janice Hallett, who won the Crime Book of the Year award, said it was a magical moment.
Simon & Schuster Children’s was delighted with the win, and Mel Griffin, owner of Griffin Books, felt honored by the recognition of their small shop’s efforts. Nicola Ramsey from Edinburgh University Press said it boosted their confidence, while Alison Barrow from Transworld felt the win was a great honour.
There are various categories for the awards, including fiction, debut fiction, nonfiction, crime and thrillers, and children’s nonfiction. Special awards were also given for author of the year and illustrator of the year. Additionally, there is a special award for underrepresented writers and one for popular fiction.
