Chilla’s Art is a new Japanese independent horror game released in February 2020 convenience store Highlights the boredom and fear of working the night shift alone. The player begins the game as a young woman working the night shift at a local convenience store, working in complete isolation with almost no customers. To pass the time, the manager leaves the player character with tasks to perform each night. Meanwhile, each night, the player’s character receives increasingly mysterious VHS tapes containing brief shots of the back area of the store.
While parts of the game recreate the boredom of working alone at night, the haunting atmosphere and subtle environmental changes keep players on constant edge, keeping the momentum and mystery high. Performing relatively menial tasks in between the game’s more tense and disturbing moments provides players with a series of Steam Achievements, including two possible endings, to unlock. Some of these achievements are hidden in plain sight, so this guide will reveal these five achievements and how to earn them.
Earn the homeless achievement at the convenience store
On the way into the first night shift, players may encounter a man sitting on the sidewalk next to the store. His dialogue is cryptic and ominous, reading like the ramblings of a broken man. Without much else to do, players will most likely keep going into the store and forget about the homeless man. However, if players can remember the character, they can unlock the humanitarian achievement.
Once the coworkers behind the counter have left the store for the night, players should enter the small employee space connected to the counter. Often, the manager will provide a note directly for the players to read. One of the first tasks players encounter from their manager is to clear shelves of expired food. When the player clicks on expired items, they will appear in a trash bag in front of the character’s line of sight. Players can take these trash bags to the dumpster at the back of the store. However, players should hand the bag to the homeless man outside the store. Doing so will unlock the Homeless achievement.
Obtain the expiration date achievement at the convenience store
This achievement pairs perfectly with the first achievement, as both Homeless and Due Date can be completed at the same time. On the same night, players should walk down aisle four and click on each shelf on the left and right. The Expiration Date achievement will be unlocked at the end of the aisle as a reward for checking all items on each shelf.
Earn safety achievements at convenience stores
There is a CCTV monitor in a small room next to the store counter. By examining this monitor, players can view the store and surrounding area from almost any angle. Players should check CCTV at least five times during the game to receive the Security achievement.
Earn the Ending 1 achievement at the convenience store
According to True Steam Achievements, less than 50% of players reach this ending, as it is the least intuitive ending. Over the course of the four nights, players will receive mysterious packages containing unmarked VHS tapes. They will be asked if they want to watch the videotape on their home television. This subtly requires players to always choose “yes” when asked if they want to watch. However, as weirder events unfold, it becomes clear that someone or something is stalking the characters and spying on the store.
On night four, the final package with the final VHS will appear in the character’s room. Players should click on this VHS to pick it up. They should then click on the empty box on the table by the window. They will be asked if they want to send the VHS back to the sender, who has conveniently included their address on the package.
This option then gives the player a black screen with scrolling narration text explaining the origin of the convenience store and its curse. This achievement included a relatively happy horror ending for the character, who reported that she quit her job and stopped going near stores because she had a strange feeling like someone was watching her.As the credits roll, players will earn the Ending One achievement
Earn the Ending 2 achievement at the convenience store
In this more common ending, the player should take the final VHS to the TV in the character’s room and press play. When asked if they want to watch, they should click “Yes.” When asked “Are you sure?” they should click “Yes” again.
Footage on the tape shows the character filmed through her bedroom window. The shot fades to black. In a cutscene, the character wakes up in bed, declaring that she can’t move. A black figure crawls out of the darkness and lunges at her, ending her life and the game, and providing the player with the Ending Two achievement.
