While the beloved characters of Beverly Hills, 90210 are drawn to the high drama about elite teenage life, the actors’ real lives are often more dramatic and challenging.
From Luke Perry’s heartbreaking death to Shannen Doherty’s long battle with cancer and Tori Spelling’s financial turmoil, the seemingly charming cast has come together through trials and tribulations.

Born into Hollywood elite, Tori Spelling’s life was once the epitome of wealth. She grew up in a lavish 55,000-square-foot mansion in central Los Angeles, with 14 bedrooms, 27 bathrooms and a ‘museum’ dedicated to her mother’s massive doll collection. However, the glamor of life often hides a grim reality. Tori’s public affair with Dean McDermott has strained her relationship with her parents, which has particularly affected her inheritance. After her father’s death, she received a modest $800,000 of his $600 million fortune – a stark reminder of fractured family ties.
Reflecting candidly, Tori admits: “Honestly, I’ve grown up in a way. I’ve never had to worry about money… that’s my reality.” However, reality soon turned around. Tora’s lavish shopping habits led to mounting debt, legal problems, and lawsuits from credit card companies. And her personal life went through turbulence. Despite the ups and downs and controversy surrounding their romance, Tori has found solace in Dean. Their love story was so strong that Tori confidently stated in her 2009 memoir: “The next day when I woke up next to Dean, I had no regrets.”
Unfortunately, their fairytale romance isn’t meant to be ‘happily ever after’. After 18 years of happiness and 5 beautiful children, the couple decided to part ways. Dean expressed his feelings on Instagram: “With infinite sadness and a very, very heavy heart, after 18 years together and having 5 wonderful children, @ToriSelling and I have decided to go our separate ways and embark on a new journey of our own.”

Luke Perry
Luke Perry, known to all as Dylan, the show’s handsome male god, met a tragic fate when he passed away from complications from a stroke in March 2019. Perry had to deal with… a life-threatening situation after suffering a severe ischemic stroke and despite a brave fight in the intensive care unit, succumbed. suffered a second stroke just days later, forcing his family to make the painful decision to remove him from life support.
Luke has left a void that can’t be filled not only in Beverly Hills, 90210, but also in his other major series, Riverdale. To pay tribute to him, the producers invited his longtime friend and former co-star, Shannen Doherty, to play a new character. As she reads Luke’s emotional eulogy, a sense of sadness can be felt on and off screen, with the cast expressing their grief openly. Luke’s death also has important implications for Riverdale’s plot, especially for Archie, who has lost his moral compass, his father.
Before his untimely death, Luke also worked briefly with Quentin Tarantino Once upon a time… in Hollywood, where he shares screen space with Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt. He is survived by two children, Sophie Perry and Jack Perry, the latter also a professional wrestler known as the Jungle Boy.

Jason Priestley, who animates the beloved Brandon Walsh in Beverly Hills, 90210, has faced many life-changing experiences. In stark contrast to his onscreen good boy image, Jason revealed in his 2014 memoir, Jason Priestley: A Memoir, that he regularly smokes and drinks alcohol during interviews. press to distinguish off-screen personalities from on-screen qualities.
His reckless behavior led to a serious car crash in 1999 when he crashed his Porsche into a telephone pole in the Hollywood Hills, resulting in a conditional arrest, five nights sitting imprisonment and one year driving license suspension. The case also required him to complete an alcohol control program.
Furthermore, Jason, a racing enthusiast, had a near-fatal accident in 2002 while training for the Indy Racing Infiniti Pro Series at Kentucky Speedway. The accident left him with a broken back, concussion and broken nose, among other injuries. Jason reflected on this harrowing ordeal, telling The Guardian in 2014: “It has to change you in some way. If not, I think something is wrong with you.”
Despite these difficulties, Jason persevered and tried to build a fulfilling personal life. He married makeup artist Naomi Lowde in 2005 and they have two children: Ava and Dashiell.

Jennie Garth, who plays Kelly Taylor, has also overcome her general difficulties, both personal and health. Jennie, who was diagnosed with regurgitation in 2002, didn’t make her condition public until 2009. In an interview with Access Hollywood, she shared her experience: “It’s a common thing. A lot of people have it. They don’t know they have it. … It’s your connection to your heart… your artery, the main artery leading to your heart, opens like an object.”
While Jennie continues to lead a normal life, her condition needs constant monitoring. She added: “In the future, it may or may not get complicated… People have replaced valves and things like that… but I’m ready, that’s what matters.”
Personally, Jennie experienced pain after divorcing her second husband, actor Peter Facinelli in 2013 after 11 years of marriage. Recalling the day Peter ended their marriage, Jennie wrote in her memoir: “Peter came home and told me he thought he didn’t want to marry me anymore and that it would be best for us to separate so we could better understand their marriage. where we stand together.” Their relationship since then has always been a source of speculation, especially after Peter’s subsequent engagement to co-star Jaimie Alexander, although they divorced a year later.
Despite her trials, Jennie found love again with restaurateur Dave Abrams, marrying him in July 2015 after a blind date the previous year. The couple briefly divorced in 2018, during which time Jennie was shocked to learn that they were getting divorced from TMZ. However, they later reconciled and Jennie thinks they have recovered from their time apart. She told People, “We definitely had to completely separate… We needed that time to mature.”

Shannen Doherty
Shannen bravely overcame many personal challenges. Starting her career in the early ’80s with Little House on the Prairie, Shannen has built a formidable reputation on television, transitioning seamlessly from Beverly Hills, 90210 to the globally acclaimed Charmed in the late 90s.
However, behind-the-scenes drama with co-star Alyssa Milano brought her character, Prue, to an abrupt end in season three. Despite this setback, she continued to storm the TV screens, appearing in various films and series, starring in the 2019 Heathers TV series adaptation, and even returning with New 90210.
However, her personal life was marked by an arduous battle with breast cancer that she bravely went public with for many years. She hopes to encourage more women to detect early and learn about the symptoms of this deadly disease. In 2020, in an emotional interview, Shannen announced the shocking news that her cancer had returned.

Now living with stage four cancer, Shannen continues to show extraordinary resilience, insisting: “I still have a lot of life left in me.” The actress revealed that this year the cancer had metastasized to the brain, but her determination remained unwavering. She recently shared two videos of her radiation therapy on Instagram, providing a rare update on her cancer treatment journey.
In addition to these challenges, Shannen also faced an abrupt divorce during her 11-year marriage to Kurt Iswarienko. The couple started dating in 2008 and announced their split earlier this year.
In a statement to the Associated Press, her journalist Leslie Sloane said: “Divorce is the last thing Shannen wants… Unfortunately, she feels she has no other choice.” Speaking of the sudden split on social media, Shannen said: “The only people who deserve to be in your life are the ones who treat you with love, kindness and absolute respect.”
