THIS street in a suburb of New Zealand’s second largest city has become an unlikely tourist hot spot after people shared photos on social media of a freaky optical illusion.

But happy snapping tourists have noticed that when you take photos of the houses on the street at an angle it looks like they are sinking into the ground.

The illusion has led hundreds of people to flock to the street to take pictures of the wonky houses and share them on social media sites like Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.

 The street also plays host to the annual Cadbury Jaffa Race where thousands of red chocolates are released at the top of the hill to raise money for charity

The street, which also holds an annual Cadbury Jaffa Race where chocolate is rolled down the hill to raise money for charity, is getting used to its new found attention.

The steep slope is quite dramatic with the hill’s elevation rising by one metre for every two metres travelled forward.

 The illusion has led to some incredible snaps.
