BBC One’s brand new drama What Happens Next is Based on a Pack of Lies has had us glued to our screens since it premiered last month.
The series follows two very different women, Alice Newman and Cheryl Harker, and their shared eccentric con artist, Dr. Rob Chance. Alongside Rebekah Staton and Marianne Jean-Baptiste, the thriller stars actor Alistair Petrie, a familiar face thanks to his roles in Netflix’s Sex Education and BBC One Night manager.
But did you know that his wife is also a star of the small screen and appeared in a hugely successful 1990s period drama? Read on to find out all about his family.

Who is Alistair Petrie?
Alistair Petrie is a 52-year-old actor from Catterick, North Yorkshire.
One of his first screen roles was as Robert Martin in ITV’s 1996 adaptation of Jane Austen’s novel. Emma. From there, he landed various one-episode appearances on shows such as Holby City, Cranford and The Midsomer Murders.

His recent TV appearances include the BBC thriller series, Night managerin which he played Lord Sandy Langbourne, as well as Fox’s spy thriller, The deep state.

Who is Alistair Petrie’s wife?
Alistair Petrie is married to actress Lucy Scott, who hails from Stradsett in Norfolk.
The 50-year-old is probably best known for her role as Charlotte Lucas in the BBC’s 1995 adaptation of Jane Austen. Pride and Prejudice.

She also appeared in episodes of the ITV mystery thriller, Rosemary and Thyme, Spooks, Mysteries of Inspector Lynley and the BBC drama from the early 2000s, Hearts and bones.
The couple married in Windlesham, Surrey, before having three sons, Angus, Cal and Brodie.
Cal and Brodie, who are twins, were born prematurely. While Brodie was able to breathe on his own, his brother struggled and spent 48 hours in intensive care.
Speaking to charity Borne, which aims to stop premature births, Alistair detailed the terrifying ordeal. “The consultant said, ‘Yes. It’s possible he could die.’

“Instead of falling apart, I knew instinctively that I had to keep a clear head, that I had to somehow take control of this situation and be decisive for my wife and my newborn son. No one else could have been cast in this role. I had to wake up. Well you do it A hidden part of your character somewhere inside you is called upon.

Just hours before surgeons were to operate on Cal to test his lung tissue for a rare condition, he developed the ability to breathe on his own.
“We know how lucky we are,” said Alistair. “There were some dark moments. During those moments Lucy and I worked as a team, we always did.”
Cal and Brodie seem to be following in their father’s footsteps as they both appeared in the episode Sexual education. Sharing a still from the drama showing his sons in costume as pupils at Moordale High, Alistair captioned it: “Nepotism at its finest. Great performances my sons @brodie.petrie @cpetrieee.
