Yuki’s story begins in Naples, Florida, where he was abandoned at a shelter when he was 8 months old because his owner couldn’t take care of him.
Luckily, the Shywolf Sanctuary was there to receive him. “We rescued him from a failed pet situation. Someone bought it from a breeder and realized it was too difficult to handle,” sanctuary volunteer Brittany Allen said in an interview with Bored Panda.
“He was thrown into a death shelter when he was eight months old. We jumped in and gave him a home and he’s been with us ever since.”
Not long after, the volunteers at Shywolf noticed that Yuki was much taller than any other dog, so they decided to take a DNA test.
And oddly enough, it turns out that Yuki is 87.5% gray wolf, 8.6% Siberian husky, and 3.9% German shepherd.
Recently, he made headlines when Briton Allen, one of the few volunteers who was able to work with him, took pictures with him and posted them on social media.
It has to be said at least that the size difference between the two is shocking and the reactions are mixed.
“Why does he look so much scarier than a purebred wolf?” one Instagram user asked, while another joked: “Run while you still have a chance.”
Most of the commenters simply commented on how beautiful and majestic she looked.
Although reactions to Yuki have been mostly positive and humorous, some have questioned the authenticity of the photos, claiming that they were photoshopped to make him look bigger.
According to Allen, they’re not photoshopped, but he agrees that angles and perspective can make them look wrong.
Either way, Yuki is living her best life and that’s what matters.
