The coveted cake stand trophy has a new owner.
After a season filled with rigorous baking challenges, mysterious illnesses and the series’ first “Paul Pat” (a gesture given by judge Paul Hollywood to contestants who done earn his handshake approval), 2024 The Great British Baking Show the series ended with a winner who made history.
On Friday, November 29, the Netflix-distributed series aired its 2024 season finale and finally revealed a new champion: 34-year-old Georgie Grasso. A pediatric nurse from Carmarthenshire in the UK marks the first winner of the Welsh series of the competition in 15 years.
After nine episodes of thematic competitions – from cakes and chocolates to bread and desserts – the original 12 contestants were reduced to three talented local bakers. Grasso won the crown after facing off against fellow finalists Dylan Bachelet and Christiaan de Vries.
The final is judged by Hollywood and Prue Leith. asked the bakers to tackle three baking projects: a signature challenge (this time it was British classic scones), a technical challenge (where the bakers are given a new recipe to make on the spot — and, for this episode, it was an afternoon tea spread ) and the final show-stopper challenge (where Grasso, Bachelet and de Vries created multi-level hanging cakes).
It was her lemon elderberry cake with strawberries and gravity-defying bubbly that secured the victory for Grasso.
After presenters Alison Hammond and Noel Fielding announced Grass’ victory, the humble home baker found it hard to believe her victory. “This is crazy! I won, I can’t believe it. This is simply amazing. I can’t believe I won The Great British Bake-Off“, she said.
American audiences on Netflix and Roku know the series as The Great British Baking Showbut in the UK the show is broadcast under its original name, The Great British Bake-Off.

Despite her disbelief, the judges kept their faith in Grasso.
“Georgie did what she knows best. A classic British roast, beautifully done, won it over and quite rightly so,” remarked Leith in the finale.
Hollywood agreed: “It’s a very special cake full of flavor and full of life. The Welsh wonder, Georgie, knocked it out of the park.”

The landmark victory did not come without sacrifices, Grasso explained in the episode. “I work full time and have sacrificed time with my children and family. I’m so proud of myself because I proved that I can do it,” she said.
“I’m already sad that I don’t come back here and see everything… the people I met will be my best friends for life. This is the best thing I’ve ever done,” Grasso said.
Grasso reflected more on her win in a celebratory Instagram post shared on November 26 (the day the final aired in the UK) and wrote about overcoming her learning difficulties.
“Words cannot describe this feeling. As a woman with ADHD who has struggled my whole life to fit in, to finish anything I’ve ever started, I can’t believe I’ve overcome a lifetime of struggle,” she wrote, adding words of advice for other people struggling with similar issues. learning and mental health. “To those of you who are neurodivergent, who doubt yourself, who struggle with your mental health. I want to say this.. these moments of struggle are not forever, your differences make you powerful and strong. You can do absolutely anything you want when you set your mind to it, I’m proof of that. Believe in yourself, love who you are no matter what.”
