The Great British Baking Show Trailer Has a Taylor Swift Reference, Plus Paul Hollywood Is 'Brutal' — Watch

The The Great British Baking Show he’s back and as touching as ever.

The cooking competition show returns to Netflix on September 27. The two-minute trailer has already excited fans for what’s to come in the tent.

The trailer for season 12 is full of beautiful cakes and typical quips from amateur bakers, hosts Alison Hammond and Noel Fielding and judges Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood.

It opens with an aerial view of the roasting tent, and the mere sight of it makes one competitor nervous.

“There’s a tent, and it’s very scary,” whispers Gill, 53. Another baker, Georgie, 34, can’t help but laugh at his disbelief, “I don’t know how I got here, like, what am I doing?”

As in all other seasons, 12 contestants, all of whom are of different ages and are not professional bakers, compete over 10 weeks. The trailer reveals that there will be 30 brand new challenges spread across the competition.

“The last time I was this nervous was either before my A-level results or when I was queuing for tickets to a Taylor Swift concert,” jokes 19-year-old Sumayah.

“When I first came to England, this show was the first thing I ever saw,” says contestant Nelly, 44. “My husband says, ‘You should go there.’ He doesn’t like my baking, but it doesn’t matter.”

“This is an absolute dream. Mom told me not to cry. I cried like that three times yesterday,” Mike, 29, laughs.

“Food is my love language,” says Illiyin, 31. “If I can make people happy, it’s always by feeding them.”

The personalities of the judges and hosts shine in the trailer. Hammond and Fielding begin their usual antics while checking out the bakeries. Meanwhile, Leith pays attention to the technical details of the cake, and Hollywood doesn’t accept nonsense, as usual.

“Maybe I’m a little more brutal,” says Hollywood.

One contestant says he won’t take criticism well. “Paul doesn’t like one of my cakes, I’ll lift his car, take his wheels off, make a few quid. Happy days,” jokes baker Andy, 44.

The The Great British Baking Show season 12 airs September 27 with new episodes every Friday on Netflix.
